A hardware failure just cost me all of last weeks' class notes.

Fortunately, we didn't cover anything substantive. But now I'm more than a little annoyed that I didn't back it up daily like I should have been doing.

I have always loved watching films of Soviet rocket launches. For some reason, the Soyuz launch sequence is more beautiful to me than the Atlas or Ariane launches.

There's a certain Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon quality to the Soyuz: the shape of the rocket itself, with its many strap-on boosters, seems to conform more with science fiction's ( Read more... )

Keep logs.

Grep through the logs on occasion.

They will teach you things about your present situation, and hint at problems.

I feel so geeky. My new mobile phone lets me use mp3 ringtones. Most people use this for putting pop tunes on their phones, so they can groove to "my humps" or whatever before they pick up the phone.
