Lessons from Today

1. My subconscious seems to be squicked out by Neil Gaiman dating Amanda Palmer, if my dreams are any indication.  I shouldn't be squicked out, since most of my crushes are on guys Neil Gaiman's age, but for some reason it appears to be.  Maybe I'm just jealous that she is dating a mild-mannered, frizzle-haired Englishman and I am not?

2. I lack the coordination to walk across a rain-slicked pavement in quarter-inch heel shoes with sliding painfully across the pavement at some point.  I did it three times this morning.  Ridiclous.

3. Pre-schoolers think my quarter-inch heel shoes are "witch shoes" because of the pointy toes.  They wanted to know why no one else was dressed up and why no one told them it was dress up day.

4. Wal-Mart no longer carries seitan or vegetarian broth.  Grrr.

5. Three things warrant long lectures from Teacher Hilary:  using or advocating or glorifying violence in any way, using the word "gay" as an insult, and tattle-tailing on someone because they used a "bad" word.

6. Something about my piano inspires kids to take off their shoes and dump the rocks they acquired from the playground beside the piano pedals.

7. Timothy and I have the best phone conversations ever:

Hilary: Hello?
Timothy: I found god today!
Hilary: You found Matt Bellamy?
Timothy: Yep, I found my Muse DVD!

8. I find it very funny that one of my friends recommended the Left Behind series to me in the hope that it would frighten me into loving god (yes, she actually phrased it in those terms).  I stood beside the understandably enthusiastic bass drummer in a performance Verdi's Requiem; if standing beside the bass drum while singing Verdi's "Dies Irae" does not put the fear of god in you, not much will.  On the other hand, it is always possible that I will eventually attend a live performance of Mahler's Second Symphony and decide that there is a god.

Yes, that paragraph was nothing more than excuse to get someone to click on those links and marvel at the music.  Especially check out Mahler - I am fangirling this new conductor, Christian Vasquez, who is quite stunning.
