Chapter Title: Smile for the Paparazzi by Cobra Starship
Disclaimer: I don't own any of them.

Adam smiled at Archie. The two were enjoying their first day out in about a week. The two had pre-occupied with their own recordings that they really didn’t have time for anything else. So the day was pretty much being spent in the mall. In disguise. Archie was wearing a ball cap to cover his hair and fake reading glasses to hide most of his face. Adam of course, was wearing his signature Aviator sunglasses, but had decided to not style his hair, so it lay flat for once. He knew one of his most recognizable features was his hair.

“Hey Adam! Let’s go to the bookstore!” Archie grabbed Adam’s hand and drug him into Books A Million. Adam watched at Archie made a beeline for the cooking section.

Adam just grinned and made his own way to the comic section. He wanted to see if the new Anita Blake graphic novel was out. As he was perusing the titles, a person caught his eye. Of course it wasn’t just any person…but a photographer. Adam sighed and carefully made his way back to Archie. He didn’t want to ruin the kids day, so a tactful retreat was the only option.

“Hey D, let’s say you and I go grab a milkshake or something.” Adam suggested as he slid an arm around Archie’s waist. Adam could practically feel the man snapping pictures but didn’t pay any attention. This was of course what the two men had planned. But today was just suppose to be a day of fun before the game began.

Archie blinked up at Adam. “Oh sure. Just let me get this book. They were out the last time I was in here.”

Adam nodded and followed Archie up to the register. He let his hand linger on the small of Archie’s back. Adam paid no mind to what happened at the register. His mind was on the photographer and how he could give him a shot he wouldn’t soon forget.

Archie could tell something was on Adam’s mind. The taller man was distracted. Archie followed Adam’s gaze until he saw a photographer. Archie gave a small sigh. He knew what he was signing up for when he decided to pursue this career. It seemed he never got a break. That was one of the reason’s he didn’t want to go public with Cook. He wanted those moments with Cook all to himself, not share them with the rest of the world.

Adam could tell there was something wrong with Archie. When he looked down, Archie had a sad look on his face. He knew then the kid was thinking of Cook. Adam rubbed his hand in small circles on Archie’s back. This seemed to relax him some.

“What do you say we get out of here now, hmmm?” Adam asked gently.

Archie looked up at him and gave a small smile. “Yeah. We can go the new store that just opened.”

Adam gave Archie a devilish grin. “Oh baby, that sounds like fun.”

And as quick as a cobra, Adam struck, kissing Archie on the lips. He gave the kid a moment to realize what was happening and was happy that when he started to move his lips, Archie kissed back.

They both knew that the photographer was eating this up, but neither of them cared. This was about something more than them…it was about getting their lives back together and the necessary evil that had to happened.

When they pulled apart, Adam smiled down at Archie. He didn’t know that the kid was such a damn good kisser. Adam was proud of Archie. The kid certainly knew how to act and the kiss was only an added plus on his part. He missed the comfort of kissing. When he was living with Kris, he hardly dated anyone. He wanted to prove to Kris that he wasn’t a man slut.

“I think we killed him.” Archie giggled, leaning into Adam.

Adam laughed and put his arm around Archie. “C’mon. Let’s get out of here before we get arrested for murder.”

They both left the bookstore with light hearts. They knew for certain that picture would be in the papers the next day. And it would definitely help them with their plans. As they made their way to the new store, Adam grabbed Archie’s hand. He knew they had to keep the pretense, sure the kiss was a great to grab attention, but the act was far from over. They had to act comfortable.

Adam stared at the new in disbelief. There was no way that such a store should exist, especially if he existed at the same time too. “Archie…this is wow. How did you know about this place?”

Archie shrugged. “I noticed you liked leather a lot. And I saw a flyer about this place opening this week. They’re giving twenty percent discounts to customers today only. So get your butt in there and shop like no tomorrow.”

Adam grinned and gave Archie a bear hug. The kid was too much. “You’re coming with me. Someone has to judge my outfits.” Adam pulled Archie into the store and the rest was history.

An hour later, both men were carrying four bags each. Adam was grateful that there was no limit on his credit card. Of course as soon as he got back to Archie’s he would pay the bill. He was glad that his music had taken off after Idol.

“What are you thinking about?” Archie asked looking up at Adam.

“Just how grateful I am that I made it in the music business. I mean I never would have dreamed that it would be fun.” Adam grinned.

“Yeah I know what you mean. But being on Idol, nothing beat that.” Archie said wistfully.

Adam only nodded. “Is there anywhere else you want to go?”

“Not really. I practically got what I came here for and after the incident with the photographer…I just want to go home and watch some movies or something.” Archie replied honestly.

“Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea.” Adam agreed as he opened the mall door for Archie.
The next morning Adam woke to someone pounding on the door. He groaned, rolled over, and pulled a pillow over his head. This was way too early for him to function and he was not going to answer the door. He was happy where he was thank you very much.

“LAMBERT! I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE. ANSWER THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW!” Adam sighed as he heard Cook’s voice float through the apartment. He guessed he would have to answer the door after all.

Adam lazily pulled himself out of bed and put a pair of pants on. There was no way he was answering the door in his boxers. Cook might get the wrong idea after all. Adam smirked and dropped the pants.
