Kris waited nervously in the office. His grandfather had just called the school and demanded that Kris be waiting on him by the time he got there; of course once the school secretary learned who Simon was complied right away. Kris was sure that the whole school would know by the time the last bell rang.
Kris had also never been so nervous in his life. He wished again and again that Adam could come with him on this lunch. At least then, his stomach wouldn’t do flip flops. It wouldn’t be so bad if Simon wasn’t so intimidating. But it seemed as if the man had a rod living in his butt permanently.
Kris didn’t have to wait very long before his grandfather’s limo driver came to fetch him. Kris just stared at the man. The driver looked more like a music producer or something. Kris wondered if the man would ever talk.
“I know he seems very cold to you…but Simon has his reasons.” The driver began on their way out.
Kris just stared at the man. He didn’t really know what to say to him. The man was a complete stranger and he didn’t feel comfortable with strangers. He walked behind the man since he didn’t really know him and was nervous around.
The man chuckled and stopped. “Don’t worry dog. You don’t have to be afraid around me. I’m just the limo driver. The name’s Randy Jackson.”
Kris stared at the hand and took it. “I’m Kris Allen. Nice to meet you Mr. Jackson.”
Randy laughed. “No need to call me mister. Just Randy will do. And just ignore Simon. His bark is bigger than his bite. He just has higher expectations than everyone else so I can see how people find him intimidating. Just relax and be yourself. He respects that more than anything.”
Kris just nodded and followed Randy out to the limo. Of course the whole student seemed to be out there and staring at it in awe. Kris nervously hid behind Randy. He didn’t want people to know of his prince title just yet. He knew that the reaction of the student body would be utterly ridiculous and not even Adam could protect him from that…no matter how tall the man was.
Kris climbed into the limo and gave a small sigh of relief. It had seemed that no one had noticed who had gotten into the limo. Of course Randy would be a pro at that, being the king’s limo driver and all.
“Good afternoon Kristopher I trust your studies are going well?” Simon asked after Kris settled.
“Ummm…as well as to be expected I guess. I do have some trouble though. But Adam mostly helps me out with that. So need to worry about graduating.” Kris answered after a moment. The question was totally unexpected.
Simon nodded his head in approval. “Good. You need to start looking at colleges soon. I know you already started, but there are a few I want to recommend and if you wish, help you apply to.”
“Of course. I’m just not sure if this is what I want to do. I mean…can I try it out for a month or so…and if I don’t like it…back out?” Kris asked. He wished his grandfather would agree.
Simon seemed to think about it for a moment. “I’ll make you a deal. You cannot tell anyone of this deal. I will let you ‘try’ it for two months. And if you find that you like it, you can marry whoever you want. I don’t care as long as you plan on producing an heir at some point. If you wish to back out, you must marry a woman of my choosing and have a child with her. And once the child is old enough, I will take it and raise it to be the heir. You then may of course divorce the woman. The decision is yours Kris.”
Kris stared at Simon in shock. Did his father make the same deal? Or did he make one similar. He dreaded Simon’s idea of a wife. God only knew what he would end up with. Kris thought about it. Could he really give his child up to his grandfather if he didn’t want to be a prince? Would it be selfish of him to do so?
Kris stared at Simon and made up his mind. “We have a deal sir.”
