My slightly impulsive summer trip is only 11 days away! :D :D I'm a little stressed and very excited. I guess that's a good mix and just how I should feel.
I've been writing down in a book all the good advices I got from you guys, along with cut-outs from magazines, maps, papers and so on. I've also written down lots of useful links, plus added a copy of my passport, student card and plane tickets. Feel free to add tips and advices still! My plan so far is:
LONDON: will visit many of the nice fabric shops you adviced me to see. I will suffer greatly by doing so (either because I'll empty my wallet and have no money for the rest of the trip, or because I won't buy anything though I want it desperately.... ;) )! Saturday will be spent seeing "Phantom of the Opera" (bought goddamn expensive tickets for row D in stalls - best they had left), and I will be joined by my sweet friend Christian. He'll take me to see Les Mis as well, but that is probably on Monday. Sunday will hopefully be spent at the V&A museum, which I have YET to visit! *shame* Possibly also National Gallery (been there many times and LOVE it - especially the museum shop with all it's wonderful art books). Maybe Christian will have some saying in what we're to see as well... Haven't been to the "typical" places like London eye, the Dungeon/Tussaud and similar.
BERGAMO: A cozy Italian city up north. Famous for it's witches (rated at the same level as Blocksberg and Benevento). The cittá alta (old part of the city) is situated up on a mountain and have city walls all around. I only spent one evening there, so I feel I wans't quite finished with the place... Don't know how long I'll stay here, maybe just a day or two. It's where my plane arrives anyway.
VENEZIA: I will somehow travel by train from Bergamo to Venezia. It appears that there is a sort of low-season from mid-July to mid-August (according to Condé Nast Traveller, which has a Venezia special in their latest issue). That appeals to me. They also had lots of good advices on how to make it affordable + what to see. Along with the museum tips offered by you, I think I'll have a smashing time. I need to find an affordable place to stay, and I need to book quickly... But I'm still awaiting my salary, so I can't really make any reservations as of now. A tad stressing.
The journey further... I don't know. I planned on visiting a friend in AIX-EN-PROVENCE, but she hasn't answered me yet on whether she will be home or not. So I'll skip France alltogether. I've booked ticket on a plane from Venezia to FRANKFURT, and I might stay there a day or two or head directly to....
ESSEN: The sole reason for travelling here is to see "Phantom der Oper". :D I'm VERY much looking forward to it, because I love hearing POTO in other languages. Josefine, I will of course pick up a brochure for you. I planned to do so anyway, as a surprise.... I once travelled from Norway to Münster (closeby) solely to see "Which Witch", so though I was given the advice to visit Münster, I won't go there now. Any ideas of what I ought to see in Essen? I tried to pick up some German guide books, but they wasn't too informative on Essen. I am also open for cities closeby.
I might be visiting COPENHAGEN on my way home, because I adore that city. Glypoteket, Det Ny Teater, the new opera house, Strøget, museums... A very nice city. But maybe it's easier to just take the plane directly to Norway. We'll see.
