SUMMER TRIP

Yay! I get to travel a bit this summer. Originally I wanted to do a little Interrail trip. But it was expensive. Seriously. To cover all zones (meaning being able to travel in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Eastern Europe - the places I planned to go), I would have to pay around $600. That would only include railway tickets for the national railway companies, not private ones (which especially Southern Europe is full of). Neither would it include ferries, sleeping couches, or ticket out of Norway. I dunno... It was more that I planned.

I came up with a much better plan. One word: RYANAIR. Seriously, I love them. They enable me to travel much more than I would normally afford. So far I've booked trip from Oslo (or what they CALL Oslo - the airport is over two hours - and many cities - away!) to London, and I'm going to stay a couple of days there. Obviously to see "Phantom of the Opera", but also to visit the V&A museum and to maybe seek out nice fabric shops. Where ARE the good fabric shops in London, anyway? I've only found a handful.

Then I'm taking the plane from London to Bergamo, Italy. I might continue to Venice or Florence, but I fear the heat and the crowd might tick me off. I also heard you have to book three weeks in advance to get entrance to the Uffizi gallery in Florence. We'll see. Bergamo and surroundings is nice enough on it's own, so I might spend a couple of days there, or I might re-visit Milano. All wonderful alternaltives. Any advices for what I ought to see/do in Northern Italy? Museums I ought to see? Places I ought to go? I'm very open for suggestions.

I have a friend in Provence I want to (and should) visit, but Ryanair listed no trips from Bergamo to Marseilles. Anyone knows why? Maybe the route isn't opened yet, just like the Pisa one? Anyhow, there are excellent private trains going from Italy to the Riviera and further up, so that could be a good alternaltive.

To get home, I think I'll travel through Germany, for several reasons. I have a friend there too which I want to visit, and I want to pop by Essen to see the "Phantom of the Opera" production there. I can go either by train all the way, or combine train and plane.

All in all, I'm very much looking forward to tavel a bit. And since I'm travelling by myself, I can decide where I want to go and when. I like that. I like travelling with people too, but for such a trip I think it's nice to have no limits (other than money limits... ). I've been getting ISIC (international student card), youth hostel membership, sleeping bag, new passport and small language books. I'm sure I'll add lots to the list by the time I'm leaving Norway!

Again, any advice of where I should go and what I should see is MOST welcome.
