The historical fair/event in my hometown was lots of fun this year. It has only existed for two years, and I participated last year too. I prefer this years event, because there were a co-arrangement with a similar event in Fredrikshavn, Denmark. We had lots of Danish visitors coming with big sail ships, and since their event is 18.th century based there were also lots of lovely Rococo outfits. We even got a Rococo king visiting! He was quite hilarious, with lace underwear being visible under his breeches, the silliest curled wig ever, plus red "geisha" lips. He also flirted shamelessly with every female he passed, as did many of his soldiers.
The "Kjempestaden" event is 19.th century based (ca. 1815-ish), but since I never got around to make a proper Regency dress for myself, I used the blue Wishing gown. Now that one is clearly bustle in style, but it didn't really matter. And everyone else was dressed up in either fake Regency or Empire.... And I was the only one in bustle dress, so everyone seemed interested in my dress. The local paper also interviewed me and took some photos - I don't think it'll be a huge thing, but it's fun either how.
There were LOTS of lovely guys in uniform there. One really hit on me - a handsome bloke - and we promised to meet up later. But we both got lost in the sea of dressed up people, so alas....
Oh, and there were a lady wearing the most gorgeous Rococco costume, made by Laila Durán (
http://www.durantextiles.com/ ). I immediately recognized her style, but I asked the lady to make sure. And it turned out the lady was a friend of Durán, and the costume sure was her work. It was a Robe a la Francaise made of a gorgeous emerald green silk, with self trimming decorations apart frow the white stomacher. The costume had a matcing hat and wig, and of course matching jewellery and a lace parasoll. She really stood out in the crowd.
The day consisted of a three-hour trip with sailboats, concerts, lots of icecream, a big costume parade, plus just chatting with people. 't was nice.
