Violet and I made it to the theater to see The Business of Being Born yesterday! The theater owner let us in for free too! Bonus :)
What a powerful movie. It was really preaching to the choir as Violet was a home birth, drug free delivery - but the information was astounding about the statistics of C sections in the US, the snowball effect of the induction/pain drugs administered so routinely in hospital births, the mortality rate...
The most impactful imagery was regarding the "twilight births" of the 20s-60s where women were knocked out and babies were forcibly removed from their bodies (vaginally). Many times the women were strapped to tables and blindfolded! and left for days in labor. SICK. I cried when I saw images of women who were treated no better than animals.
