the business of being born

.... is showing at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck tomorrow thru Thursday, and all shows are matinees!  YAY!  They must be expecting an all-mamas with babies audience.

My intention is to take Violet up there tomorrow to see the 1:45 show.  Wish us luck!  I have not begun to imagine taking a baby to a movie theater and truthfully am not all that interested in doing it often, but for this particular movie it's cool.

I had such a great birthday; thanks to all my LJ buddies who wished me a happy one.  It was mellow and a lot of fun with a flurry of visitors.  We had Violet's baby blessing at the house on Saturday, and I will plan to write a post about that, time permitting... but it was magical and Dona officiated and we anointed Violet's chakras.  She had a great time.

Our friends Karen and Julie (Karen's 10 year old daughter) came on Saturday for the blessing and stayed overnight and hung out on my birthday.  We had a pajama tea party for breakfast in the livingroom, then Karen and Charlie went to the home store to buy spring bulbs while Julie and I hung out with Violet.  Then Karen and Charlie planted the bulbs, and then Julie joined Karen and the two of them raked up a TON of the black walnuts that are all over our backyard (I think there are no less than 1 million of them; I made up a story about them that I tell to Violet every day).  Charlie got some takeout dinner from a restaurant that we like, and he got 2 cute mini cakes that he had decorated with birthday wishes.  Our friends next door joined us for cake - we decided to eat dinner and cake outside with the waning mild-ish weather (OK, it was in the 50s)... the neighbors stopped by and joined us for cake as well; and as Karen and Julie hit the road to head back down to Philly, my former college roommate MB pulled up with her husband Julio - they live in Long Island; and they were in Oneonta (where we went to school together) for a baby shower of a former classmate.  On their way home, they came by to visit.  MB did not even know it was my BD; I didn't feel like it was important to tell her and I didn't want her to feel like she should need to do something other than show up and visit me since I just wanted to see them and hang out :)  She discovered it was my BD and we had a laugh.  We had a fantastic visit with MB and Julio and they pulled out around 5:30 or so.  Violet was feeling the effects of Daylight Savings shifting, and was sleepy, so I put her in the bed and laid down with her.  We laid there for a little while, then Charlie and I took a candlelit bath together, and then I turned in around 8:00.  That felt luxurious!!

I didn't get any material gifts for my birthday and I never felt the need for anything like that.  I feel so blessed.  I have been gifted with a miracle; Violet is precious and the best present in my life.  I have a special and extremely loving partner in Charlie, and his love is an everyday gift.  I'm surrounded by friends who love and support me and my family, and my own family is loving and supportive in their own unique way too.  My dad and stepmom love to spoil me and pamper me and I love that.  They came for the blessing and brought tons of food and cleaned up the kitchen for me.  What more could I ever want, really?  :)
