Exactly. People (usually homophobic people) often say to me, "how can you be against pedophiles? They're just pedosexuals, they're attracted to children and can't change that. If you support homosexuals but not pedosexuals you are a hypocrite."

Umm...what? Do these people not know about consent, the ability to consent, legal ages of consent? I assume that there probably are "pedosexuals" who never have and never will act on their attraction (I feel like throwing up, after typing that)...and while those people still creep me out (I'll never understand seeing a child in that manner)...it's the action...taking advantage of the fact that the child might not be brave enough to say no and then touching the child that's the crime. Not to mention...ABILITY TO CONSENT!

I'm not yelling or scolding you...I'm just pissed off.

For the most part I'd run into people like in college, either when I was protesting against Prop 8 (with my colleges Office of Religious life, they were very against Prop 8!) or when people saw some of the materials from one of my professor's research (was related to gay studies). Luckily, I never turned violent.

You didn't say gay people are like pedophiles, I was just reacting to the article, the things people have said to me and to this last paragraph. I was agreeing with that part and just airing my frustration ( ... )

Oh they're most definitely homophobic, they tended to be individuals who reacted when they saw that I was very against Prop 8, or that I was helping a professor in his research about gay 18-26 year olds. For some reason, this Friar just reminded me of those people.

"Consent is everything to do with everything regarding who you can and cannot have sex with. Duh, jackasses!"

You understand that, I understand that...why don't they understand that? But it might be related to the finer points of abstinence only education that someone mentioned below. Some people just don't recognize the importance of consent, I wonder if I went back in time...how many of those people would recognize marital rape ( ... )
