"Consent is everything to do with everything regarding who you can and cannot have sex with. Duh, jackasses!"
You understand that, I understand that...why don't they understand that? But it might be related to the finer points of abstinence only education that someone mentioned below. Some people just don't recognize the importance of consent, I wonder if I went back in time...how many of those people would recognize marital rape...
"Also, in societies that emphasize on empathy, compassion, kindness, and equality - e.g., a lot of Buddhist countries - have either 1. Less sociopaths or 2. Same amount of sociopaths, but since it's not beneficial to be sociopathic less of them come out of the woodwork."
That's not surprising. Also, I was thinking about what I learned about early human gatherer-hunter societies, societies that were egalitarian, that required individuals to work together, beyond empathy, communities in which food and other necessities were provided communally. In those societies I imagine if sociopaths were born or formed, they simply would die. They wouldn't be able to form bonds in order to get help (if injured etc), or if they rubbed another member of the community in the wrong way and the community felt that that person wasn't worth keeping around, they could leave him/her too. Yes that's harsh, but I can understand why.
Sorry my reply was so disjointed and short. Thinking about this topic is just so exhausting.
Sorry this reply is so disorganized! There was one more thing I wanted to add that goes in line with what we were discussing. One thing the media utterly fails (for the most part) to discuss is that like the physical or emotional abuse of young children, the sexual abuse of a young child can result in that child growing up to become a child molester/rapist (and that might explain some of the disgust that pedophiles feel about themselves). I'm not victim blaming, but there is evidence that shows that if a child is forced into sexual situations far before (s)he is ready to explore even with peers that is just confuses them. It can be harder for them to figure out their orientation, sexual pleasure won't be completely pleasureful (because even a child who is forced feels some physical positives from the stimulation, that's a major problem with all sex crimes against individuals of all ages), and because of their trauma some of them will become predators themselves. That's why...we'll never know the scope of Sandusky or these Priests' crimes. We'll never know all the children they harmed, or if any of those children grew up and began harming other children. It's a sad, disgusting, horrible cycle. In fact, who knows if Sandusky or any of those Priests were abused. I wouldn't be surprised.
