I bought the new Lady Gaga album on iTunes last night and I'm listening to it today for the first time. I became a huge fan of hers last year, which was surprising to me at the time because I don't usually listen to pop music at all. But she's actually very unique and talented, I respect her tremendously for standing up for progressive causes, and I genuinely enjoy most of her songs. I even got to see her live with a good friend of mine last September...amazing concert, everything I wanted it to be.
So far I don't like Born This Way quite as much as her previous two, The Fame and The Fame Monster (which I consider to be essentially one album). But right now I'm really enjoying "Marry the Night," "Born This Way" (which I didn't like initially), "Scheiße," "Black Jesus," "Highway Unicorn," "Electric Chapel," and "The Queen." I still haven't finished listening to the entire album so I'll have to reserve judgment until then. But the lyrics are really empowering, as usual for her. And it's very interesting that she references Jesus so much on this album. One song I'm not huge on despite its interesting subject matter and the fact it was released as a single is "Judas." It's just too techno/club for me. But perhaps I'll change my mind. There are a number of songs on her last album(s) that I never liked, but a few others I grew to like months after I first heard them.
I think this album might be a grower, one I'll love more with repeated listenings. But all in all, it's wonderful just to hear her voice again, and to listen to these new songs. In the past few months my fanaticism for her has waned from what it was at its peak, but I did miss her. She really is just so amazing.
