So, this little scandal has been out for a bit now. Whether you have kept up with it or not, the basics that have been found out so far are as such:
Nancy Pelosi stated that she was never told about this horrible practice known as "Waterboarding." She stated that this practice is absolutely horrible and should never have been allowed.
The Republicans stated that she was alerted to it because she was involved in a "virtual tour" of techniques that were going to be used against enemy combatants at Gitmo.
Nancy Pelosi stated that the CIA said that Waterboading could be used but that she was never explicitly told that it would be used.
Later, she backtracked and said that it was a staff member who was at the meeting and not her.
The CIA stated that Pelosi was at a number of meetings where Waterboarding was discussed and even one where it was demonstrated.
Nancy Pelosi stated that th CIA lied to Congress and that it continues to lie to Congress.
Some Democrats called the CIA liars because their rosters were not accurate.
Republicans called for Nancy Pelosi to step down or, at the very least, to have a "Truth Commission" that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats wanted on the Harsh Interrogation Techniques. Mostly along Party Lines, the vote for a bipartisan panel to investigate was voted down.
Nancy Pelosi stated that it wasn't the CIA that mislead her, it was the Bush Administration.
Nancy Pelosi states that she stands by her original statement that the CIA lied to Congress and continues to lie to Congress.
So...who do you believe? In the wake of this scandal, should Nancy Pelosi step down as Speaker of the House (as others have in light of scandal or potential scandal)? If the Democrats are so hardcore on finding out the truth about these Harsh Interrogation Techniques, shouldn't we find out who (Democrat and Republican, as apparently 2 from each party went to the meeting where they discussed this [well, we know one was Nancy Pelosi and one was Porter Goss])? And finally, does this really seem like the most Ethical and Transparent Congress that Nancy Pelosi spoke about when she was named Speaker of the House?
