Dept. of the Rather Unexpected:
GameFaqs has posted the final results of their annual Character Battle. It's done tournament-style, with a series of face-offs (Cloud from FF7 vs. Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, for example) until it gets down to one final showdown.
The winner this year:
The L-Block from Tetris.
....whut? And is it the left-facing or right-facing L-Block? What color? *shrug*

Aaaaaaaand, with an on-time response for once,
Booking Through Thursday asks:
Would you say that you read about the same amount now as when you were younger? More? Less?
Why?
I would say that I probably read less now than when I was younger. I was a bookworm growing up (not surprising considering my mom is an elementary school librarian and my dad is a voracious reader), and while I'm still a bookworm now, I think I have less time for it. There's work, of course, but there's also so much of Life that gets in the way, not to mention I have a very wide variety of competing interests, most of which don't lend themselves to doing two things at once. That said, I have been on a major reading kick lately, trying to zip through some of the books on my shelves so I can judge what I want to keep and what I can let go, having read it (and thereby giving it SOME kind of reason for being in on my shelves for years!). I'm really enjoying it, but all my other hobbies are falling behind; hopefully I'll find a way to strike a balance.
In another attempt at balance, I stopped
LibraryThing-ing last night long enough to watch
The Illusionist.
It was inevitable that I'd be comparing it in my head to
The Prestige, since they cover similar subject matter and were released around the same time. I have to say that I liked The Prestige much better. While that movie was more of a suspenseful mystery, The Illusionist was more of a love story, and sadly, the characters didn't move me enough for me to care what happened to them. I think there were a combination of reasons: I don't like Edward Norton that well; I thought his character was too cocky and made a lot of his own trouble; and the forced Austrian accents fell pretty flat to me. It wasn't BAD acting that was the problem (I thought Jessica Biel did a decent job, and Paul Giamatti was great), but something about the tone of the film just didn't resonate with me like The Prestige did. *shrug* I'm glad I saw it; maybe it will grow on me over time. Sometimes movies don't make a very good first impression on me, but as time goes by they will continue to pop up in my thoughts and eventually I form a better opinion of them.
Today after work we met up with Stine, Sara, and Gary to get sushi. It's Christine's "victory dinner" in honor of finishing her thesis, except that, uh... it's still not done. AUUGH. Ah well, the sushi was good. Now everyone's over here watching
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I love this movie. XD
