I think my fondness for and devotion to the Romantic poets only extends to the Lake poets and maybe John Keats.  I didn't like Shelley and I'm not a huge fan of what little I've read of Byron (and I have no intention of completing Don Juan).  Also, I kind of abhor Blake, though I'm pretty sure this makes me a horrendous English major.  Oh well.  I ( Read more... )

Percy Bysshe Shelley was and ATHEIST, not an ANARCHIST.  They are different.  This should be evident from the fact that the entire plot of the Mask of Anarchy revolves around the allegorical figure of Anarchy being slain by Hope (and that weird shape rising out of her).  He uses Anarchy, along with Murder, Fraud, and Death, to represent the English ( Read more... )

 I already have almost 600 words in my Romanticism paper, and it's not even due until next week Wednesday!  This has got to be a first...

No.  No I will NOT read every single poem written by a female romantic included in our anthology.  That's absurd.  Do you know how many poems that is?  I haven't bothered to count:  there are 12 women with poems included.  We'll only end up talking about 3-4 poems in class, anyway, so what's the point?  Just because they aren't a member of the 6 ( Read more... )
