A Sports Revelation That Will Rock Your World!

Jan 01, 2008 22:34

Before I begin, keep in mind that this revelation is a product of a 12 hour car ride on New Years Day after less than 6 hours of sleep. During car rides, there is not much to do except contemplate life and do a crazy white-girl dance to fun hip hop songs to see how many fun looks one can receive from other motor-vehicle operators. I have yet to go to bed yet, and must inform all readers that I strongly feel this may be one of my most clever moments (right next to my "zero cup theory"). Anyhow, first some background info:

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)
UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship)
IFL (International Fight League)
WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting)
TKO (Technical Knock-Out...not pertinent for this discussion, but I thought I'd throw my new-found sports knowledge out there)

When discussing the UFC, I became confused with the scoring system...and the records that appear on the screen. Apparently, your fighting records are like your college grades...they can't ever be erased (stay with me...this still isn't my revelation). They combine your records from all the branches of MMA fighting (mixed martial arts fighting...look at me using the lingo). I had no clue that all these branches existed...let alone had anything to do with each other. See, some people fight in the UFC, others fight in the WEC, and some still fight in the IFL. Apparently there are tons of other "branches" out there. I didn't know how they had anything to do with each other. While pondering...I managed to come up with the bright idea of the year to help myself understand it (I know you're excited now!):

Mixed Martial Arts is like Christianity. In theory, it's all the same thing, yet there are several different denominations that are different. UFC is like Catholicism...the largest denomination (insert cool, philosophical music here). If I watched the others a bit more, I'd be able to compare them to specific denominations as well. Perhaps one day in the future...I swear, I'm in need of sleep because I'm literally laughing bullets right now(if you sweat them...you can laugh them, right?)
Good stuff, huh? ;)
