*SPOILERS*
My thoughts...
Fabulous episode! I much preferred it to the first one (which I still enjoyed). This one had so much detail.
The Doctor.
Okay. So I really, really, really prefer 11 to 10. 10 was like a lost kid a lot of the time. Whereas 11 has all the danger and darkness whilst also being childlike when he wants to be. But you get a sense that the older man is really there still. The slight edgy-ness is something I loved about 8, Sylvester McCoy's Doctor. I always felt that he was a mysterious, kind and loving uncle but you wouldn't want to cross him. I got that again with 11 in this episode. How very firm he is. Matt Smith's voice is just beautiful.
(Also, Smith and McCoy share a slight lisp thing which is cute and lends continuity to it!)
Amy
More impressed with Karen Gillan's performance this week. Nothing like saving the world in bed clothes. But she had some lovely stuff to play.
The Story
The Star Whale was beauitful, but reminded me of Torchwood's 'Meat' of course. How many outer space whale things is the human race going to torture before they realise it's BAD? I loved the design of the show - the UK (sans Scotland) being a ship, the Tube-vators, the horrid fairground things in the booths. Some very nice touches. I also liked Elizabeth X's reference to what the Doctor did to Queen Bess. But most of all, the comparison of the 'last of its kind' thing was really touching and sweet, and Amy has now earned her worth as the companion. I thought that was a lovely to way to make the Doctor's tragic circumstances less harrowing (as it was portrayed previously).
All in all I thought the episode was made of win and was extremely happy to hear the 'middle eight' of the theme tune back. Even if the stupid bitch presenter did talk all the way through it. Barrowman Grrrr *shakes fist*.
Now. Anyone care to guess as to why there is a St John's Ambulance sticker on the TARDIS door? Noticed it last week. I think it might be a thread to a later story. Happy to see it there. I'm a member and proud of it.
Hope y'all enjoyed it also!
