abstract ideas, like catching air with bare hands

Somehow my brain seems to remember words about things much more easily. I don't know if this is common in language learning.

桌子 zhuōzi "table"
猫 māo "cat"
温泉 wēnquán "hot spring, spa"

These things are easier to remember. But ask me to tell you the words for "impression" or "quality"... and I struggle to remember.

印象 yǐnxiǎng "impression"
质量 zhìliàng "quality"
态度 tàidù "attitude, manner, bearing"

All three of those are in an "abstract nouns" section of my nouns file from last year, and I remembered none of them. I guess they just slipped out of my head when I wasn't looking.

I don't know if retaining abstract vocabulary is a common problem, or if it's just me.
