Mistborn: The Well of Ascension
Mistborn: The Hero of Ages
The important thing is how I feel after finishing a story. It's best to close the book and feel the characters still speaking, Vin still clinging to spires in the rain, still learning how to fly using horseshoes (really). To still see Elend standing in a field of ash under a red sky, as a dying god waves frantically at him. To feel their unbending trust for one another. To travel with TenSoon, who's decided he likes being a wolfhound after all. To be surprised over and over again in nice ways.
So I'm glad I read the Mistborn trilogy. Scenes linger. Characters moved me.
There are a couple of negatives. I think the first half of each book could have been shorter. I know that's very common in fantasy (the doorstopper genre), but still. Okay, having just said that I still couldn't put the books down.
And I think there might have been three named female characters (other than just passing through) in books two and three -- two in each book. (Okay I just remembered MeLaan.) I'm having trouble wording this paragraph so I'll stop now.
Moving on, I'm over 100 pages into The Hidden City by Michelle West. I've already read eight books that take place in the same world, but it was years ago and I'm having trouble remembering some of the details. Actually it's kind of strange reading about fantasy authors now, because I keep thinking "Oh yeah, I read that one too..." I must have had quite a reading habit back then.
