But he seems taking more about physicality not so much mental weakness. 50s US was just a sexist and gender unequal as the 40s, 30s and so on. Women equality movement aka the Feminist Movement didn't start till the 1960s and grew rapidly in the late 60s up 1980s when is kind of died out.

Actually, there have been several Feminist Movements, and it was during the First Wave that the idea that women are not the weaker sex and should have protects from her husband emerged. This was during the 10s and early 20s.
Throughout the 50s, women began to challenge the idea that women were the "other" in society, and that men were the default. This made it possible for the 2nd wave to gather strength and come full force.
Unfortunately, this mentality has not yet reached Korea on a wide-enough scale.
