Letter to Columbus Dispatch on CIA Torture article

Oct 11, 2006 04:42

Dear Editors,

It should come as no surprise that the CIA would kidnap and torture an innocent man (GERMAN’S TESTIMONY--Spanish told of torture at hands of CIA, Tuesday, October 10 2006). Even open and public police forces occasionally get the wrong address for a raid and the use of excessive force is hardly unknown. At this point, could anyone believe that the CIA is beyond making a mistake?

Remember that when all is said and done, the CIA is only a government agency and one that operates in secret, beyond the ability of the press or public to examine or review its actions.

Would you really want the people who run FEMA to have the power to arrest and torture your daughter? In secret? With no review or appeal?

This is why we should rightly fear giving arbitrary detention power to the Executive. Do you think anyone was punished for this? Will anyone go to jail? Did anybody even lose their job? Or will they just be given the Medal of Freedom?
