https://instagram.com/p/DCE-3LPvPMG Here we go again: Lucasfilm's film department, which has been trying (and failing) to get a new Star Wars movie off the ground since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, is taking another stab at it. Simon Kinberg has reportedly signed on to produce a new trilogy of movies. Kinberg was responsible for

but turning mando into a movie is a symptom of a bigger problem with star wars right now: they're so scared of trying anything new that they're going in circles. they should branch out of the skywalker timeline, but the one time they tried that with the acolyte all the worst fucking bigots in the fandom threw tantrums as usual and lucasfilm tends to cave to them every single time. james mangold is allegedly making a movie about the dawn of the jedi, which could be a good direction just for something different... but then we're back wondering what the likelihood of it even getting made is, ( ... )

Trek fans are mostly cool except for the very confused ones who complain about it turning "woke" when that was kind of always the point from the beginning lol. and I get slightly annoyed by younger fans who grew up in different times looking back on old episodes that used allegory to do social commentary with too modern a lens, but it's a minor quibble

I actually really wish they had such with the 'Legends' stuff because at least it would have provided a messy but existing skeleton to work with, rather than just a bunch of spaghetti thrown at a screen and hoping some of it sticks.

But I really enjoy the new novels, games, and shows. Wasn’t huge on the latest trilogy as it progressed and The Acolyte though. Watching but didn’t love them like I’ve loved everything else.

[And now I rant]The issue I have is that Star Wars had a massive extended universe pre-Disney with books, games, comics, animation etc which you could pick and choose to engage with. It flourished because there were so few (relative) properties. Lots of fans loved it and I loved parts of it too but honestly? There was also a lot of crap in there, characters got Uber powered, the concept of the force was radically altered, things didn’t make sense etc ( ... )

I've mostly been focusing on print media when it comes to the Star Wars stuff I do consume anymore, particularly the comics. Star Wars: Battle of Jakku (2024-) takes place after Return of the Jedi and has so far been really good, with a lot of focus being put on Leia coping with her Vader!trauma and being a General in the wake of the Rebels' victory. Ewoks (2024-) takes place around the same time and I was really surprised by how well-written the first issue was. Also, they're just so stinking cute.
