https://instagram.com/p/DCE-3LPvPMG Here we go again: Lucasfilm's film department, which has been trying (and failing) to get a new Star Wars movie off the ground since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, is taking another stab at it. Simon Kinberg has reportedly signed on to produce a new trilogy of movies. Kinberg was responsible for Dark Phoenix and The 355. In the Star Wars universe, he was the co-creator of the television series Star Wars Rebels (which OP loved so at least he has one win).
It is unclear what the plot of this trilogy would be. Some speculation suggests Kinberg is taking over the planned new Rey movie and expanding that into a trilogy, while Deadline says Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still working on that for Lucasfilm. Deadline also says it will be Episodes X-XII, but that it's not a continuation of the storylines from the other main trilogies, which... does not make sense, but alright.
Lucasfilm has finished filming on one new Star Wars movie: The Mandalorian & Grogu reportedly wrapped production last month. It is currently slated to release May 22, 2026.
