Don't forget that Taylor blocked Charli's #1 spot on the charts in her own country. Plus one of the songs on Brat is allegedly about Taylor lol.

I think Taylor tried to downplay the chart drama because she later praised Charli's album and few months later. But I don't remember if Charli has said anything on it...I don't think she has.

i wonder if Ariana is going to be the Sympathy is a Knife feature instead. i think in an interview Charli mentioned that one of the lyrics on the remix of that song is something about how everyone wants to bring you down once you're at the top, which fooled Swifties into thinking Taylor was on it, but kinda works for Ariana too (nvm that the reason most people dislike her is the cheating and homewrecking lol)

In essence it doesn't work for Ariana but whatever. It doesn't work for Taylor either cause she's too at the top to be brought down any of her peers and she's the only one bringing herself down lol.

But I'm curious to hear Ariana. Part of me does feel for Charli cause I remember her showing off the 1989 album on vinyl where she did a house tour a few years ago so she clearly was a fan at one point. But lol Taylor is so insecure and power-hungry she alienates some of her fans who are peers.

in a profile charli was quoted comparing opening on rep tour to performing for five year olds and she said after the profile came out her words had been misconstrued and it was a wonderful opportunity blah blah but i’ve kinda always wondered if that signified or caused some off vibes bc i could see taylor taking that poorly (and honestly fairly or not, i would get it if that were true even tho idt charli said anything wrong and also if you watched the rep netflix doc when she the openers came onstage during shake it off camila was bopping and charli looked like she was in a hostage video

yeah you're probably right tbh! it could just be a case of the vibes between them being off as opposed to actual drama, just because they never actually seemed that close even though they got along fine vs. charli and camila on the same tour who did feel actually close. so there might not have been much of a friendship there in the first place, which also explains charli never being around when taylor and matty were dating. she was a weird match for the rep tour in the first place, i'm going to have to find where she looked like a hostage lol.

yeah sympathy is a knife is not a diss track at all and actually kind of complimentary in terms of how much the subject of the song makes charli insecure. personally if someone wrote a song like that about me i would feel powerful. ia with you about charli probably making taylor feel uncool, but that's a good point that taylor's happy shiny persona doesn't really go with charli's personality either.

i actually agree that taylor is most endearing when she owns her cringe but also……. this is legit a big part of why i think she and travis have a chance to go the distance lmao. they are cringe4cringe! she will never have to worry about him being too cool for her or making her feel basic or like a dork! she wrote a line on TTPD where she says “were you making fun of me with some esoteric joke” and that is truly a concern she is free of in her current relationship, bless.

Somehow I missed that Charli opened up for Taylor! I remember she took Camila on tour but I think I forgot about Charli? I think I vaguely~ remember.

the way i know all this because i read and watched every interview about the making of Señorita, because i was shocked when i found out it was Charli XCX who wrote the song during Reputation tour and gave it to Camila!!! Camila may be the one associated with that song in the public eye but Charli is the one who made bank off of it

Yeah I remember being shocked to see Charli on the writing credits a few years back!! Charli has def secured herself financially because she's written for a lot of artists! Which is funny cause some of these artists like Icona Pop (I don't care), Selena Gomez (Same ol' love) and Camilla (Señorita) were getting the big radio/chart hits while Charli wasn't getting that same recognition despite the fact that she was co-writing hit songs for other people!! I think that use to really eat away at her cause she def wanted that mainstream success. Which she's finally getting with BRAT but I also think she's comes to terms that she likes this type of success and doesn't need to that HUGE level of success cause similar to Lana and Marina, I don't think they're cut out for that super mainstream level of fame. All of them are better off in their niche spaces while occasionally finding success in the mainstream

Didn't Taylor make a special appearance at a 1975 show before the ERAS tour? That specific incident may be what the song refers to.

It's interesting cause I think most people get turned off or paranoid to a degree of her level of fame and the microscopic-parasocial focus of attention being around gets someone. And anyone near her must realize how much she is behind that attention. Travis seems to be the only one absolutely drinking it all up! Matty, Joe, and Calvin on other hand got overwhelmed and spooked by it...I wouldn't be surprised if the real spooky for them is really how much power she wields because she'll use it against you like in the case of Joe and Calvin. So I'm not surprised she never seemed to be invited or got close enough to Matty and Charli's social circle?

IDK if that counts as his "social circle" but she seems close to the head of his label (who people have said Matty is very close to, the 1975 have been with the same label since forever). Like she put him in the VIP tent at Eras even after she and Matty broke up, and there was a video from this summer (maybe Coachella?) where she was seen introducing him to Travis.

If she put Taylor on it, it'd overshadow the entire thing (not quality-wise, just drama and coverage wise). From an artistic point of view I'm not sure she'd want this.
