also honestly re they both have their issues in different ways, like, if sympathy is a knife IS about taylor (which… it is), the track doesn’t even say anything bad about taylor, it’s about being insecure and neurotic. i think taylor definitely has her demons but she presents a pretty happy shiny persona in public that i suspect holds true in private but not intimate moments (like at celeb parties or whatever, as opposed to with her close friends), and based on how charli is i can see her finding that just difficult to cope with. so IMO it doesn’t even need to be drama, the vibes could just be weird (esp since on the other side, one of taylor’s bigger insecurities historically seems to have been being uncool, and charli seems like a person who could activate that - comparing her audience to five year olds would not make taylor feel cool!) (ETA: like, charli literally has a song on brat about dasha, whose podcast called taylor’s mom fat and mocked her eating disorder… not saying taylor consciously made that connection in her calculus about how she feels about charli, but i think it illustrates that they have Very Different Vibes)

yeah sympathy is a knife is not a diss track at all and actually kind of complimentary in terms of how much the subject of the song makes charli insecure. personally if someone wrote a song like that about me i would feel powerful. ia with you about charli probably making taylor feel uncool, but that's a good point that taylor's happy shiny persona doesn't really go with charli's personality either.

"if you watched the rep netflix doc when she the openers came onstage during shake it off camila was bopping and charli looked like she was in a hostage video)"
JFALKSJA;J!! OMG I actually do remember that quote!! And I think I remember some users here mentioning that Charli looked like a hostage in comparison to Camila looool!!
"i think taylor definitely has her demons but she presents a pretty happy shiny persona in public that i suspect holds true in private but not intimate moments (like at celeb parties or whatever, as opposed to with her close friends), and based on how charli is i can see her finding that just difficult to cope with."
I feel the culture difference in both of them cause this cause Brits are also admire but also feel intimidated(?) by the American optimism or spirited attitude even when things are not good. Cause I feel like Brits tends to be more self-deprecating and more blunt about their feelings instead of putting on a front. And so I could see how Taylor putting shiny perfect front could trigger an insecurity in Charli. Granted I could be totally wrong lol.
"ne of taylor’s bigger insecurities historically seems to have been being uncool, and charli seems like a person who could activate that"
This is 100% true cause I'm immediately thinking of that one verse from we are never ever getting back togther:
I'm really gonna miss you picking fights
And me falling for it, screaming that I'm right
And you would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that's much cooler than mine
Which is a shame because I remember thinking her playing up to her cringe nature was endearing at the beginning of her career. Pop girls are at their best when they can poke fun at themselves.
