I don't think it counts until you make music where they finally know you exist. There's plenty of artists that were nominated multiple albums later.

Love her, but come on. Even if we consider the album she came into the public consciousness as her “debut” for best new artist purposes, that album is emails I can’t send. She had two hits off of that album and opened for Taylor swift. She should be embarrassed to be submitted for the category.

Those comparisons don't make sense. Sabrina Carpenter has 5 full blown studio albums and her last album is where she had "Nonsense" which is the song that made her mainstream.

Zayn should sue lol. He couldn't be nominated because of 1d but this is somehow allowed?
