How is this category fraud?

This is her 6th album. I don't know a lot about the Grammy rules but she's been here.

I don't think it counts until you make music where they finally know you exist. There's plenty of artists that were nominated multiple albums later.

Ooh, welp now I really don't know.

Her prior album had two hit songs though.

Yeah it only matters that she’s new to ~them lmfaooo

It’s a stupid rule, it reminds me of that academy award rule for adapted screenplay 🤣 just nonsense

"The official guidelines are as follows:
For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist.

Note that this is not necessarily the first album released by an artist; for example, Shelby Lynne won the award in 2001 after having already released six albums over 13 years"

Espresso put her on the map like no song she released before.

It's a tiny bit sketchy, but not without precedent at all.

Espresso put her on the map like no song she released before.

Exactly, "Nonsense," (Hot 100 peak #56) "Feather" (#21) and her album emails laid the groundwork but lbr, "Espresso,"(#3) and "Please Please Please" (#1) are the songs that catapulted her to where she is today. It's definitely a little sus and side eye worthy but I think Chappell is gonna take it anyways.

But by that logic can’t many (most?) artists be submitted every year for best new artist as long as they don’t have a top ten hit? I get the idea of coming into the consciousness as being the breakout moment, but even if Nonsense didn’t peak that high it had idk like 500 million (probably more) streams on Spotify before espresso. I get it for certain artists that truly did not have hits, but Sabrina had a big fanbase pre-espresso. She was quite literally performing at a pretty late timeslot on the Coachella main stage while she released espresso! She’s not comparable to Noah Kahan or Victoria at all.

they could do that up to three times if they wanted to. so long as they haven't been an actual nominee and haven't submitted for bna three times already, they'd be eligible.

According to the BNA rules, yes they would be able to.

lol well apparently they can up to three times, that’s wild to me that they would allow her to qualify. But the Grammys only care about ratings and want the controversy and for her to show up. I am sure the award will go to Chappell, though.

I really do hope Chappell takes it.

Sabrina's team needs to focus on the other categories tbh.

Please Please Please is genuinely such a weird and innovative song, it should get something.

Sabrina is going to be nominated for multiple major categories. BNA nomination or no BNA nomination, she's going to be there. No "fraud" necessary.
