- Karolina Shiino has relinquished her crown as Miss Japan after her affair with a married doctor/influencer was leaked to a local magazine.

- Moving to Japan at the age of five, when her Ukrainian mother married her Japanese stepfather, Shiino didn't become a neutralized citizen until 2022. She writes and speaks the language fluently.

- The pageant organizers tried to handwave the controversy by claiming she was unaware he was a married man; however, Shiino confessed to knowing he had a wife and children.

- The Miss Japan title will remain vacant for the rest of the year - despite there being eligible runner-ups.

- When she won, Shiino said: "I had not been accepted as Japanese many times, but I am filled with gratitude to have been recognized as Japanese today."

- Following her resignation, Shiino stated, "I am truly sorry for the huge trouble I have caused and for betraying those who supported me."
