They don’t check any of their sponsors.. they’re still hawking betterhelp. It’s so gross because they do not need the money, they can be picky about which they choose! (I don’t listen but my roommate does.)

Mishandled sensitive info, sketchy/unlicensed therapists, sold emails of users to social media sites to target ads at, google can explain better in detail than I can lol
I’ve been wary because so many mental health professionals have been speaking out from the beginning but I can also understand if it’s your only option bc mental health services can be difficult to obtain.

Which is why it’s so upsetting that they pounced on a population that’s very vulnerable and have very few choices and are pulling this mess. One of the therapists that was speaking out against them said the blame is on their industry partially for betterhelp getting popular since they’re so inaccessible and also their industry just hasn’t changed with the times in regards to social media and even helping people find therapists that are good matches for you. Which is why I have nothing but sympathy for people that use betterhelp because it’s so much easier for the patient to just hop on there vs trying to find a good therapist in your area that takes your insurance (if you even have any) and you connect with. Just finding one can be the most exhausting step!
Also I know betterhelp did their lgbt users wrong I just can’t find the info and don’t want to spread misinfo on a subject like this lol

Almost every booktuber I watch, or Youtuber in general, has promoted BetterHelp and what's maddening is a lot of them talk from a place of living with mental illness themselves and seeking therapy (usually NOT through BetterHelp) and I'm like.... why are you promoting this service?? When you have better access too? And they promote it as like "therapy can be hard to access so here's this more affordable option than what I use" basically

I’d like to think most are coming from a place of ignorance and don’t know any better but also …I know most people see $$$ and shut their brain off. It’s very upsetting tbh!

This wasn’t even one of their sponsors! It’s something they use irl and just mentioned. Ugh.
