ONTD Original: A Subjective Ranking of Every Planet of the Apes Movie

Feb 20, 2023 05:00

After torturing myself by watching and ranking every Batman movie, I decided to do it again. This time, I chose the Planet of the Apes films because I only recently learned that there's more than one AND that the franchise was rebooted relatively recently with a new film in the series set to be released next year in 2024. I had never seen the ( Read more... )

First of all, there's going to be ANOTHER film????

Second of all, I'm watching both Oppenheimer AND Barbie, tyvm! Though I may watch Oppenheimer first because I KNOW I'll have an empty theater all to myself.

ANYWAY, I loved this franchise when I was a kid, but couldn't remember much other than the very first film.

But the reboots I love even more. Andy Serkis is what made those films so beautiful and tragic. Though I hate that Franco is in the first film.

And Brian Cox was in the first reboot film?? I must have blanked out on his character.

I was so disappointed in the Tim Burton Apes film. I thought it was going to be amazing but it was Zzzzzzzz.... I couldn't tell you what happened because I was bored.

Okay, OP. You got my day/week planned out because now I have to find and watch the reboots. I love those films so much.

And Brian Cox was in the first reboot film??

He's the older sanctuary guard with Tom Felton! He's only got a few scenes, but he delivers a hell of a lot more than Franco. Especially when he shows up after all the chaos - there's a cut of a close-up on his face and you see so many emotions expressed in like 2 seconds.

I'm watching The film right now and no wonder I didn't recognize him: his hair is dyed a dark brown/auburn color.

And I don't think I cried the last time I watched the movie. I guess because the thought of my dad growing older breaks my heart.

And I forgot how much of a jerk the neighbor is, too.

I was in the hospital over the summer and the only thing that I could find worth watching on TV was the 2017 movie. I also wasn’t expecting to get so emotional about it and I cried as well, OP, lmfao. Def makes sense that Matt Reeves directed it too because I remember I kept checking the time on my phone 💀

What a magnificent post! I completely agree with every word. Thank you for your service, OP.

Also thank you to this post for informing me that there's going to be another one! I had no idea. The reboot trilogy is legit great, I'll fight anyone who says otherwise, and I'm a Caesar stan. Also low-key a Koba stan #justiceforkoba.

The part where Caesar finds the videos at his home always pulls at my heartstrings
