ONTD Original: A Subjective Ranking of Every Planet of the Apes Movie

Feb 20, 2023 05:00

After torturing myself by watching and ranking every Batman movie, I decided to do it again. This time, I chose the Planet of the Apes films because I only recently learned that there's more than one AND that the franchise was rebooted relatively recently with a new film in the series set to be released next year in 2024. I had never seen the ( Read more... )

Anyway, my love for Toby Kebbell started from those movies because Koba
really is ‘that ape’ and you can’t help but low-key root for him. And i
will vouch for my back-stabbing bonobo because the second the virus
started to mutate again those humans would have started hunting those
apes anyway.

Yesssss I was like "fuck 'em up, king!" though the effect is lessened considering I say that every time he's in a movie.

Toby deserves Sam Worthington's career, mo-cap and all. The fact that he's not a big movie star is honestly infuriating.

Fantastic Four killed it...I even liked it, in a what the fuck kind of way, but if I see Trank in the streets we will be fighting!

Wow a ranked list I agree with, at least the newer ones + 2001 because I never watched the older ones.

these are the only mostly-CGI movies I really love. Mo Cap was really effective. Also we're just so close to other apes in expression that you could imagine how they would make those expressions.

I absolutely love that op made this post the weekend I decided to re-watch the movies on Disney+! I adore this trilogy, and what struck me this time is the fact that War for the Planet of the Apes is basically a retelling of Moses/The Ten Commandments, plagues and last minute miracles saving the chosen ones (that snow avalanche is like the red sea parting to let the apes escape!) included. And Caesar, like Moses, dies just as they get to the promised land :'(

fuck, this movie has LAYERS.
