2021 Tony Awards

Sep 26, 2021 20:00

Calling all ONTD theater lovers (all 15 of us)! It's Tony night so let's discuss the winners, the losers, and the fashion.

If this picture doesn't sum up the juxtaposition of the Tony Awards, I don't know what does. Darlene Love, Matthew Morrison, Marissa Janet Winokur, Chester Gregory, and Kerry Butler perform at the Tony Awards.

Not sure how the Tonys even happened this year, by good for them! Give Darlene Love all of the awards! Like for just walking up in the morning and existing.

The Tonys were originally scheduled for June 7, 2020, but obviously that didn't happen due to COVID. In August 2020, they announced they would have a virtual ceremony later in the year (no specific date) and then that got postponed too. In May 2021, they announced that they would have an in person show in September. I wasn't sure if that would happen either.

The good thing is that since all Broadway shows require the cast and crew to be vaccinated, that wasn't an issue with holding the Tonys.

I haven't seen all the red carpet pictures yet but I checked Laura Osnes' Instagram account and sure enough, she mentioned nothing about the Tonys. She posted some stuff in her stories but not a word about the Tony Awards.

So this is a long delayed ceremony that is on no one's radar? Good for Broadway being back and vaxxed though. I would hate to have to work in theater during a respiratory pandemic but I guess they are taking as many precautions as they can to get people working again.

Yes, tonight's awards were for the 2019-2020 season. Normally the cut off date for shows that are eligible is April, but since Broadway shut down in March 2020, they moved the eligibility date back to February because there were a few shows that opened in February that they felt not enough people had been able to see.

Loved Tom Sturridge in this play. He broke me to bits. I purchased tickets to see Waitress next week before Sara’s run is over and I am ready to lose my mind and cry a lot hearing her sing She Used To Be Mine live.

I am here for this. Their voices have definitely changed but the chemistry and love is still so strong between these two.
