Aug 14, 2020 21:52

Depeche Mode have been blessing our ears since 1981 and many pop and rock artists and producers have cited them as their inspiration or reason they got into music. Even Lady Gaga herself at some point was going to make a cover of their song but unfortunately we're still waiting for that one.

So, to celebrate the fact that they're going to be Read more... )

I had no idea you were a Def Leppard fan! I'm primarily a fan of the Steve Clark years (he's why I first picked up a guitar,) but I was also surprised to see them on ONTD.

Yeah, Steve's relationship with his father is a lot like mine with mine with my biological father, where nothing we did was ever going to be good enough, and I related to him so much because of that. I was about 3 1/2 years old when Steve died, too, so it also was before my time, and yet..

I'mma go listen to "Pyromania" on repeat for like two hours. XD

They are my all-time favorite band. I distinctly remember watching MTV and Kurt Loder breaking in with a special report and flipping my shit when he announced Steve died. I'm glad I got to see them with Steve on the Pyromania and Hysteria tours. He was amazing live.

As far as this cover, the first time I heard it was as the lead-in music for their 2018 tour, and it's always going to be special to me because my sister gave me a VIP meet and greet with them for my *mumbledymumble* birthday so every time I hear it, I think of that.

Hmm, honestly I just found their music without listening to their whole albums until I became a fan and went from there lol , their best albums Are Ultra, Violator, Songs of Faith and Devotion, their new albums are fantastic too, Sounds of the Universe, Spirits, or you could go with their popular songs: Enjoy the silence, Strangelove, Behind the Wheel, Halo, Personal Jesus , I feel you, I just can't get enough (this one is really techno, their beginnings were very techno lol ) , shake the disease

i'll chime in and agree with ohmylol that the best way is not starting with whole albums but listening to random stuff or their best of/hits compilations and gradually becoming a fan lol.

but it also depends on the music you like, if you're more into rock then "songs of faith and devotion" (see songs: walking in my shoes, i feel you, in your room, mercy in you) and "ultra" (songs: it's no good, barrel of a gun, useless) are your best bet. their most popular albums are "violator" and "music for the masses" and are electronic masterpieces. their early stuff is very 80s techno and might be hard to get into so i wouldn't start with them. "playing the angel" is also one of my personal faves, it's sort of dark alternative electro, a bit of NIN vibe (songs like a pain that i'm used to, john the revelator, suffer well).

OMG, how could I forget "Music for the masses"??! Also Suffer Well is one of my favorite songs of them and I love that Dave Gahan wrote it , such a talented man

Also talking about Alan Wilder , can you believe there are still DM fans who hate Andrew Fletcher for Alan's departure??! And here I thought kpop fans were dramatic 💀💀

with exo - it's nothing dramatic, i didn't cancel them or anything lol. it was kind of a silly situation, i became a "stan" in whopping 2011 before they even debuted properly and dedicated my time and stanning energy to the group that was a bunch of blank slates basically lol. they had no personalities, weren't allowed to do interviews, they didn't go on shows... the fandom back then had an intense underdog mentatlity because exo weren't hitting it big from the start and it was a fandom mostly focused on fic and speculation because there was literally nothing else, it was bizarro world. it was a blessing when they did hit it big but with that came the exodus, first kris then luhan then tao. luhan was my personal fave so after his departure my interest fizzled out. i still came back to the fandom for comebacks up until whatever was after ko ko bop, then i just stopped caring, but by that point i just got tired of the kpop fandom tocixity in general, and the (exo) fandom changed so much that it was unrecognizable, everyone in my fandom ( ... )
