Thanks for all your hard work OP!

Did you dislike your private education, ONTD? Were you surrounded by under-baked meat pies (a.k.a. pasty white people)?
I went to public school my whole life and had an awesome education, but it was public school in really wealthy districts. I was surrounded by white people whose parents were incredibly successful, like make the newspaper for what they did level of accomplished, and most were low-range multi millionaires. I always felt super embarrassed by my family and it was only later I realized we were really average ( ... )

they're hard, but let's be honest: the majority of people getting PhDs are middle or upper middle class adults who are (a) able to ACCESS academia (bc the barriers it puts up to working class people are all-but insurmountable) and (b) procrastinating on entering the whitecollar 9-5 workforce (again, because they CAN).

This is so true. I'm lower middle-class and kinda want to go back for my M.A. in screenwriting or journalism (I have a B.A. in film and screenwriting), but... I'm struggling to pay off my student loans as much as it is now with a part-time minimum wage job. I mean, a part of me would LOVE to get some kind of PhD when I'm 36, but fuck me, that'll never happen. I don't have the expenses (or time) for that! All these people getting PhDs don't have to worry about money or living paycheck to paycheck or they come from a family of white-collar bitches already, so they're all set. They already have connections to get the jobs after school (if and when they leave).

Completely agree! I really hope you are able to break into screenwriting/journalism bb. For what it's worth, these posts are incredible and I love reading them every time
