so, at work, jen hits me and then demands an apology. for what? i asked her. she has no real reason for a need for an apology. the girl that sits between us at work is at the dentist, and so jen is bored down in the corner, i guess. she's quite hyper today.
work is going okay - i actually had to do work early in the day for the second day in a row. it is a good thing though. i need to be more productive overall, as i mentioned last night.
so, in the time between last night's update and the other most previous update, a lot happened. i graduated. i am officially a college graduate with a bachelor's of the arts degree in political science from the state university of new york college at cortland. magna cum laude. my sister, mother, father, step-father and paternal grandfather were all in attendance. it was a crazy time, but it went well. i'm still kind of stunned that it happened, even though it was the logical end of the path i'd moved along for the past four years.
after graduation, i went to courtney's parent's house out in lake george for her graduation party and had a great time. courtney is one of the people at cortland, and there are several, who i miss and who i am going to continue to miss over the next many years. others that i will miss (this list is not exhaustive by any means) include renee, kofi, joelle, nicole, kate, jen tatlock, andrea, christine, and keli. the whole poli sci department, in toto, will be missed as well. hopefully i can create a wealth of new friendships while at cornell.
after the grad party, i drove to baltimore and flew out to belize. i stayed in that beautiful central american nation for five days. as kate's passport didn't arrive in time to go (it came on wednesday), i went by myself. this frightened me a bit at first, but it was a wonderful experience. i met and spoke with many more people than i otherwise would have. i wrote about this in a journal that i updated a few times each of the first few days - i will put those words on here at some point soon.
the first day was spent in travel - i arrived in ladyville at the airport, walked to ladyville proper, bused to belize city, bused to belmopan, and then finally bused to cayo. in belize, most people call the town/city of san ignacio simply cayo. i rented a room at the hi-et (which is at the other end of the price range from its homonym), wrote a bit, and went to eva's bar to meet people. again, i'll write about those days in greater depth later.
on wednesday, i left cayo, via an express bus (these are much nicer than the general buses) to belize city, took a cab to the water taxi station, and took a water taxi to caye caulker. while at the water taxi station, i met a group of three people from portland, oregon. these included two women and a man. the two women work together at a pharmacy in portland. i hung out with them for the next three days, even sharing a room (and a bed) with the single woman in the group, who is several years older than i am. this was an odd experience, but an enjoyable one nonetheless. we went snorkeling and relaxed on the beach and at the beach-front venues. on friday morning, i water taxied back to belize city, taxied up to the airport, and headed home. it amazes me that the trip was so short.
on a completely different topic, my dad's radiation and chemotherapy are over. he should be healthy again soon. the last few weeks have been difficult for all of us around him, and, moreso, for him. he's held up so well, and he inspires me every moment. i wish i had good ideas for father's day gifts, but i really have nothing in mind.
i should get some work done, so i'll cut this short here. leave me messages, por favor.
cheers,
craig
