I've come up with a set of signs to help me identify when friend have made sub-optimal choices in boyfriends. I've decided to put some of them down, so they're no longer unwritten rules.
1. He never has money to go out, or to buy you things, or to pay for dinner, movies... but always seems to have money to buy his own beer or cigarettes. Related: you're always the one picking him up and/or buying everything.
2. He doesn't take phone calls with you in the room, and when he does take a phone call, he takes it outside or somewhere you can't hear.
3. He doesn't want you to wear anything sexy or cute when you go out, even though wearing something sexy and cute is what attracted him in the first place.
4. He doesn't like your friends, doesn't want to hang out with your friends, and either works to drive off your friends or encourages you not to hang out with your friends. Related - he has no friends of his own.
5. He doesn't like to eat out anymore, but wants to stay home and cook you romantic dinners that consist primarily of pastas and heavy sauces.
6. He never compliments you, but instead only finds fault.
7. After the first month with him, you never do any of the things you used to do, and only stay home because he never feels like going out.
8. He calls you ever 15 minutes when you do manage to go, and asks when you'll be done and can hang out with him again.
9. He's an active petty criminal, who likes to brag about how he rips people off.
10. He rarely touches or acknowledges you in public, until one of your guy friends is around; then, he can't take his hands off you and gets all grabby and possessive.
In other news, had the draft for the fantasy baseball league I'm in. I ended up with about 1/3rd of my team being the same as last year, but think I've made a significant improvement in the pitching. My hitting is gonna suck, though, unless a couple of my team picks get some significant playing time. I'm hoping, in the real MLB standings, that the Mariners can have a decent over .500 season this year, but I'm not convinced they've got the lineup for it.
