Festivids reveal!

Festivids reveals are upon us! I am deeply amused that
meddow got stuck with me as recipient two years in a row, but also obviously thrilled and grateful cos it meant I got gorgeous vids two years in a row. :D Thank you!

I made 4 vids this year:

Love Can Move Mountains & Dirtee Disco, both Muppets vids for
sdwolfpup
Keep Breathing (Chariots of Fire) for
fiercynn
Sexyback (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) for tearful_eye

So, that's 2 vids for my recipient; a last minute pinch hit; and a Treat for tearful_eye , which will certainly not surprise her in the slightest. :p (I had to do it though, secrecy be damned, as a thank you for introducing me to this adorable and AWESOME tv show.)

Overwhelmed by the lovely response I had to all four vids - and particularly pleased at the amount of people who commented saying they were now going to watch Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. (Yes! Everyone watch it, and love it, and fic it and vid it!)

Two main themes of this year's festividding experience for me - falling in love with old fandoms all over again, and painful sacrifice. As in, no, brain, you cannot fit every single character in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries into a simple 2-and-a-half-minute vid. No, I don't care how much you love Hugh's confused face, or Bert and Cece's smirks, or Dr Mac or Mr Butler, there is no room for them.

No, there also isn't room for all the runners and Sam and Jenny and Sybil in a 3-minute Chariots of Fire vid without making it hopelessly confusing.

And no, you can't fit all 50-odd years of Muppets canon into 3 minutes. Seriously. No, honestly, people will get the point even without The Jim Henson Hour and Muppets Tonight and red carpet interviews and backstage footage and holiday specials...

Okay, that last one was a hard one to learn. Eventually sanity prevailed and I restricted myself to stuff I already owned on DVD or could *cough* acquire in decent quality pretty easily, but the Muppets tribute to Jim Henson was in there right until the final draft when I finally had to admit that the crappy VHS source just looked too jarring next to everything else. And I had such good intentions this year, only offering fandoms with short, limited source...but I had to make
sdwolfpup her Kermit vid as soon as I saw the request, and then saw she had requested the same every year since festivids began. Because it's Kermit. I was helpless to resist. I may have made possibly the cheesiest vid in the world, but that's what 3 months of solid Muppets and all their LOVE and JOY and FRIENDSHIP will do to your brain. :D

Just don't talk to me about aspect ratios. *shudders*

I'd forgotten just how much I love the Muppets. Or rather, I knew that - one look at my DVD collection proves it, it's like 80% entirely Doctor Who and Muppets - but I can't remember the last time I actually sat down and watched any of them. (Other than Muppet Christmas Carol, which I watch every Christmas Eve without fail - this year I watched it three times within the space of about a month and sobbed like an idiot every time. Never watch both Of Muppets and Men and the Muppets tribute to Jim and then Christmas Carol in the same weekend, or you will be left in inconsolable PIECES by Kermit's "life is full of meetings and partings…" speech. *sob*)

But come on, how bloody good was The Muppet Show? Really? I watched some episodes while making these vids that I don't think I've ever seen - or certainly not in a very long time - that were just such perfect little moments of genius I forgot all about taking notes and could only sit on the sofa open-mouthed in awe. Amazing.

I could also ramble on for another 2,000 words about how much I love Chariots of Fire and how much the film means to me, but this post is 3 times as long as it needs to be already so I won't. But thank you to fiercynn for requesting it, so I got the chance to indulge in that love for a bit. :)

'Twas a good year!
