25 For that moment, for that brief moment after the 'yes', no one else existed, but them.
But of course, they were in the middle of a family dinner.
"Uh..." said Devin, while Marcie couldn't hold back her smile.
"Hahahah!" Hillary finally ended the silence with her laugh.
"What a BUUUUURN!" She said. "Congrats, guys!"
Even Peter smiled a little. "Yeah, guys, congratulations."
Gaby, though, was obviously not happy.
"Mom?" Devin said.
"Come on, Gaby..." said Peter.
She ignored them.
"I should go talk to her..." Peter said.
"No, I should." said Devin, and Marcie nodded approvingly.
"Mum."
"I don't want you to leave me!" She said, finally exploding.
"Oh, mum. I'm not leaving you."
"Yes, you are." she said solemnly.
"No, mum..." said Devin "I just gotta go out there and make a life of my own. And I want to do it with Marcie beside me."
She nodded. "I know. The moment I saw how you were looking at that girl, I knew. I knew that was the girl you were gonna love for the rest of your life."
"And that there'd be no place in your heart for another woman."
"Oh, mum, come on!"
"Listen, what you said about Marcie is true, but please know, there's no need for you to compete with her, alright? She's my fiancee. You're my mother."
"I know, I know... I must sound like an idiot. I shouldn't have behaved like an idiot."
"I actually think Marcie is a lovely girl, smart, witty, funny, and stunningly beautiful."
"Thank you mother. Now, would mind telling her that?"
"Don't try to outsmart me, boy!"
Meanwhile, it was the last semester of the twins in college, and they were pretty excited to start out their adult life.
And so they got a very nice apartment in the same complex as their mother, so that was really exciting.
"Nice job on finding this apartment, sis!" Selina said.
"Who would've known you'd have an eye for real state?"
"You can just say 'thank you', you idiot." Viviann said, but she smiled when she said it.
Of course, Selina had been living in a dorm for four years, but that still didn't make her less mad her neighbors were keeping her up.
"Shut up! It's three in the morning!"
"Why don't you have sex in the afternoon like normal people?"
Because, after all, she now had a job, a grown up job in the show bussiness.
And so did Viviann, in the Journalism field.
"Devin? What a surprise!"
"Hey Viviann!"
Things were far less awkward that they were in college, but still, the tension of Viviann rejecting him many times still lingered sometimes. At least that's what Viviann thought.
"What brings you up here?"
"I have some big news!"
"It's good to see you, Viviann." He said, and taking what Viviann thought was a whiff off her hair.
"You too. So what are these big news you're talking about?"
"Marcie and I are getting married!" He said exictedly. "I came by to tell you and Selina."
"Oh... that's... great, Devin. Congrats."
"I assume we'll see you at the wedding?"
"Yes, of course." she said, before coldly walking out.
