Wow, I've been MIA for a bit haven't I? It's been a very busy month of moving, unpacking, painting, more unpacking, buying stuff, more painting. I've been sort of enduring my job lately so I resist writing here and bitch-bitch-bitching about it even when that's what I feel like doing.
The new place is wonderful! We're not totally settled yet but we're getting there. I'm still getting to know the neighborhood. I miss the beach and my old OB neighborhood for sure but I am loving all the space we have in the new house. We are slowly venturing out into East County to see what's out there -- mostly seems to be ten thousand fast food joints but I am determined to find some cuteness to love!
Also I have been kind of down in the dumps lately because I have been sick for over a month now. A cough that turned into bronchitis that turned into a sinus infection. I finally got hold of an antibiotics prescription after my third consultation with a doctor so I am feeling better in the last 2-3 days and the sinus headaches have stopped. I am looking forward to feeling more myself so I can start running again and get to know Lemon Grove a little bit that way.
Threw a super-awesome baby shower at the house yesterday for my friend Amy who lives across the street from us now. My friends Ali and Jen threw it with me, so all I was in charge of was the food. I'm not ashamed to say that I stole both the theme and the food from a shower that Rachel threw for her sister Bekah last year. We had a bumblebee theme so everything was yellow! We even asked the guests to wear something yellow and Jen was in charge of flowers and did an amazing job. The best part is that she left them all here so my house looks like a freaking botanical garden right now. If I am ever rich I think I will fill the house with fresh flowers all the time.
Anyway, for food we did a salad and panini bar. Ali and another girl lent me their panini presses and then I set up a table full of yummy ingredients to make your own salad or panini. People were all over it. Brandon grilled a bunch of chicken for me, and we had lots of veggies, three kinds of cheese (can you tell I was in charge of the food?), and I even made some homemade aiolis for sauces. Aioli, of course, sounds fancy but is just mayonnaise mixed with yumminess and then put in the fridge for a day. I made a roasted red-pepper and a lemon-garlic and they turned out great! I also made my own garlic croutons for the first time and they were yummy too. For dessert, Brandon agreed to make the cake. It was chocolate cake with yellow icing, and he built it to look just like a beehive! It turned out adorable and delicious, and all the women were super impressed by my husband's mad skillz.
Ali made a gorgeous homemade diaper cake as a centerpiece for the presents, and organized some cute trivia games. No baby-food tasting or diaper-candy smelling at our baby shower, no sir! Jen got hold of her mom-in-law's scrapbooking collection so all the guests got to make Amy a scrapbook page for a "Baby's First _____". I am not really a scrapbook person but I made two pages for fun -- Baby's First Friend and then a 1st Birthday one later when we saw no one else had done that. All three of us were very pleased with how it all turned out, and Amy had a great time. Shower success! Party planning is a blast, and it's so much easier when you are only doing 1/3 the work! And now our new house's party-hosting capabilities have been broken in, so it's Tosspon parties all the way from here on out!
Now we are playing hooky from church (sorry church friends that are reading this and are disappointed in me) to have a East County brunch date and recharge for another week of work.
