Well well, life has not exacty been exciting for the last couple of weeks, but I'm sure I can dredge up one or two interesting or humourous instances.
This weekend, on Sunday the farm is open to the public so that they can see what goes on etc. It's part of an intiative called 'Gates Open' to promote awareness of organic farms in Scotland. To me this has translated into trying to tidy up this mess of a farm. All the staff and all the wwoofers have been busy weeding, vacuuming (they call it hoovering), and deciding what to do with all the random crap that has accumulated here over the last 9 years. There was an unpleasant afternoon deciding what to do with a dead chicken and a pile of rancid seaweed. This farm has never looked so good. For the actual day we all have duties, like explaining things and giving little tours and whatnot. I'm in charge of the fruit for some reason, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Better to have put me on the eggs, I know them inside and out. But then I wouldn't have had much enthusiasm. I am up to HERE with eggs!
Oh and here's my semi funny anecdote. Last week another wwoofer came, a fellow from California. We went out to the pub on Friday night and well... he had a few too many to drink. He was absolutely fine while we were there, but as soon as we got out he started climbing the walls, literally! He was jumping on everything and makng way too much noise for such a little illage, and then when we were passing by the seashore he decided to take off all his clothes and go swimming. So the vision I'd like to leave you with is one of some guy running along a dark beach in his boxers in the middle of October and me chasing after him in the almost pitch black gathering up his clothes and yelling at him that he's an idiot. The next morning I went to another fair with Donnie (my host) and he stayed home, begging a hangover. I bet he was really just embarrassed, as he should have been.
