Alrighty now, where to start... I'm at Macleod Organics, in Ardersier, which is just near Inverness. I work about 8 hours a day here, if not more (had an 11 hour day on Wednesday, was bagging chard unil 8 at night) but the work is varied enough that it doesn't feel too long. And the paid workers who come in on week days are really funny. There's Richard who is a nature nut and retired rock groupie who talks an or sings nonsense to himself and everyone around him constantly. There's also Nathan who is around my age but is really an old man, always talking about fishing and totally out to lunch on popular culture.
I help with weeding, picking fruit and veg for delivery and collecting and boxing eggs. My main job is feeding the chickens and collecting their eggs, which is freaking scary! There are about 250 chickens, and seeing them all running full tilt behind my ATV is really eerie. I think one of these days they'll get bold and pull me from my seat on the ATV and devour me alive. And yeah, I get to drive an ATV. It's really fun, and I look really tough (the Scots say 'hard', teehee) except when I try to change gears and lurch around madly.
Anyway, the sea is only a couple steps away, and Inverness and Loch Ness are only a busride away, o there's lot's to do when I finally get some time to do it. Right now that doesn't seem very likely, I've worked 5 days straight and it looks like tomorrow I'll be workin at a market day in Inverness. I'm not really complaining, my host is really nice and if I ask for a couple days off I'm sure he'll say yes. But if I was getting paid for this work, I'd be rolling in it by now. I think come Sunday I might go up to the Orkney islands and explore a bit. Right. And in parting, my Scottish accent is improving to the extent that when I accidently speak in a Scottish accent to a actual Scottish person they actually recognize it enough to be insulted by my shoddy impersonation skills. I don't think I'll ever speak like a local, but maybe by the tme I get home I'll be able to get a laugh from some people.
