Time passing by....

Feb 10, 2011 16:27

I'm sure that all of us on here have times when we have posts we'd like to make but other things get in the way. Before you know it, weeks have passed by and somehow the news item is 'old'. So, I'm trying to give you a bit of a catch up, before more time passes by.

So, the floods were a month ago now and it is amazing just how quickly the city has been cleaned up. In some of the badly affected places you would never know that it had been submerged under tonnes and tonnes of mud and metres of water. A visitor would be hard pressed to notice the brown water marks on walls, and the damage to buildings. Of course, there is still a great amount of work and recovery going on, and some things are going to take years to put back in order. But we are all very very optimistic.

Cyclone Yasi struck the state's north coast, and our region was spared any damage or effects from the winds and rain. Thankfully nobody was killed directly from the cyclone, but the damage is tremendous, and many homes and towns have been destroyed or totally wiped away.

However, it isn't all doom and gloom, and life goes on. Work continues to be very busy, and once days off come around, I am more than ready for some relaxation. The same is true for Andrew. We work shifts and for us to get the same time off together is like trying to get all the planets to align in a particular way. The other week was one of those times, and we headed off to Sydney for a short break.

We found an excellent hotel right in the heart of the city, with great city views, and within walking distance to Circular Quay and The Rocks.

And being in Sydney meant that we had the chance to catch up with Johnjottobear and his partner Jonjccub1. Even though we had recently seen them when they were in Brisbane for John's birthday, it was great to be able to go out for a few drinks and a meal with them. They wnated to take us to an Italian restaurant in The Rocks, but they weren't sure exactly where it was.....thankfully they found it and it turned out to be a great little place, and very reasonable considering it's in a major tourist area.

I can't resist having a pic of my favourite building, even though it is a bit blurry.

And that was our weekend...nothing out of the ordinary, but so good to get away. Oh, we did have some fantastic views over the city as we took off from the airport, so I'll leave you with those till next time.
