Rain, Camera & Spa.

Last week was a very busy one and I haven't had much chance to post anything. The weather has been very wet and we have had fantastic flows into our dams. Just a few years ago we were down to something like 16% combined water totals and today we are over 85%. This is fantastic, especially in a dry country like Australia where drought is common-place. Unfortunately some places have had terrible flooding with significant damage to homes and property, but the amazing thing is that almost everyone who has been interviewed has not moaned about how bad their lot in life is right now, but how wonderful the rain is and what a great year it will be for their crops and animals....the grass is growing thick and lush and the irrigation channels are flowing. The resilience of the Aussies is really amazing. But I still can't help feeling sorry for those who have lost almost everything in the floods.

I have finally got my new camera. In my last post I told you about my camera dying. I have taken the plunge and bought a digital SLR. After looking at all the reviews I decided on the Nikon D5000. It will take a little getting used to after my previous one. It came with two lenses; a standard 18 - 55mm, and a 55 - 200mm zoom. I'm very excited about it, and hope it will come up to expectations.

I just want it to stop raining so that I can get outside to play with it and to give it a good workout.  Andrew always jokes with me that it takes me so long to take a picture...I like to get it right! Now that he has seen this new super-dooper one he is worried that it will take me 10 mins per picture. How rude! I need to practice so that I can prove him wrong.

Saturday night we went to a friends 40th birthday party. The venue was only 4 stops on the train, so no problems there. The only thing is that the moment we got out of the house to leave, the heavens opened and we got fairly wet. Fortunately it had stopped for the 5 mins walk at the other end. Then as we were leaving it started out dry and before we got to the station it was pouring and we were wet again!. However, it was a good night out and there were about 40 people there. It was good to have Sunday off work!

For a while now, Andrew has been hankering after a spa in his courtyard. He went to the Home Show here in Brisbane last week and saw one he really liked. He was very excited about it and wanted me to go and have a look at it as well. So, yesterday we went to the Home Show and had a good look at it. It really is lovely and the outcome is that he has decided to get it. It should take about 6 weeks, so that gives time to remove some shrubs, prepare the ground and get the power-point sorted. Is it too early to put the champagne on ice?

It's still raining. I have 4 shifts to work this week and then I am off for 5 days. I'm hoping the weather will pick up a bit. Meanwhile I am off to work in an hour.

Have a good week
