BIG Cosplay update

Sep 08, 2007 15:35

After a two month post-AX hiatus, I am back into cosplay mode. (well if I can find the time to sew and all...) Here's what I'm starting on.

Upcoming Projects:

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix (Ravenclaw uniform)

Pink Plaid Prince (for the lolita tea party in October)

[design in progress]

Chii from Tsubasa (for Izumicon)

Ai Kago from W (for Izumicon) - duo with Gidget!!

PGSM Sailor Mercury remake (for Izumicon)

John JUST got me to watch Gunbuster 2 and I'm not finished with it yet. But Nono is too awesome!! And look at the nifty shortshorts on that pilot suit!! =D I also like her waitress outfit from the first episode. x3 Not really sure on this one, but so tempting.

And again from the amazing Gainax, I also want to cosplay both Yoko and Nia from Gurren Lagann; don't know if I actually will for sure, but I'm sure if I do I'll be young Nia. John and Stetson want to do a group but I kinda doubt we'd get it all done. This anime has some of the best character designs I've seen in a while.

Progress Pictures:

I just adore Luna and her looniness and I've wanted a nice pair of Hogwarts robes ever since I did my ghetto Hermione. I still want to cosplay Ginny but I think Luna is a good fit to me. ^^ I'm going to make the uniform accurate to the movie but taking a few book-inspired creative liberties with her accessories. And her hair, since she has to share a wig with Chii. Also I'm doing BRONZE and blue like the books, not silver and blue like the movies.

Here's the unstyled wig I bought - it's an Alicia xL in a dark blonde from Cosworx. It looks darker IRL but thank you Mr. Flash. I won't be doing much with it except making it a little disheveled. It's just above the waist. Since it's described as "dirty blonde" in the books, I thought dark blonde fit better than platinum like in the movie. Plus platinum washes me out so bad.

Check out the awesome sweater I found for $5.50 at the Salvation Army thrift store!! All I have to do is replace the buttons with black ones and paint the bronze and gold stripes.

Robe fabric - I got A LOT of yardage just to be safe. I spent like $40 even getting it on sale with my discount! These and the sweater appear lighter thanks to Mr. Flash. The black is a nice twill and the blue is a lighter quilting cotton for the lining. I started altering Simplicity 5840 and it is RIDICULOUSLY HUGE. So yeah, working on that today.

Something I had lying around and will use for the skirt. I dyed it once since this picture but it still needs to be darker to match my cardigan.

And my tie!! What a find for $1.50!! =D I have to paint over the stripes so they are accurate but at least it's a nice guideline to keep them straight. :) Even if I didn't paint it, this could totally pass for a Ravenclaw tie!

Also I can't wait to bead her cute little radish earrings!! =D

This is the new Scruffy (Sepia) from Cosworx. Obviously it's white and I'm going to dye it again like my last wig with Sharpies. It looks a little wild right now but I can work with it and the important feature is it has the layers which are so hard for me to cut.

I haven't done too much for Chii yet but shop around and pick out things. I found awesome chandelier crystals to use though!!

The are glass, which would be heavy and expensive, so I think I'm going to buy like 5 of them, and just cast them in resin. Yikes, what an adventure. There are A LOT of them on the costume!!

I found the perfect beads at work. ^^ Unfortunately they are $8 a strand but that's what coupons are for! Also I plan on using cotton sateen (cotton so I can dye the gradient) for the dress underneath and a dull satin for the overdress-majig. I'm going to try sewing the ears to the wig like I did with Iron Mouse's ear muffs. That worked pretty well.

I want to make a new outfit for the October Lolita Tea Party in Glendale - a pink plaid prince!! ^_^ Still working on the design, but I'm using this fabric I have:

That's all for now!! I hope I have some actual PROGRESS to show you guys soon!! xD
