I have a before and after picture for you! Warning, much nakedness with a bit of photoshopped 'clothes', possibly NSFW. Mentions diet and weight-loss a lot.
The photo on the left was taken at the World Naked Bike Ride in London 2007, when I was 280 pounds. I lost 14 pounds on my own, then joined Slimming World in May 2008. The photo on the right was taken in July 2010 with me weighing 196 pounds. Total weightloss to date: 84 pounds, 70 of which I lost with Slimming World.
Many things have helped:
Living alone, and thus controlling what food is in my kitchen.
Having a personal trainer for a few weeks at a time once or twice a year.
Finding exercise that I really like: lifting weights and jogging.
Learning how to pick myself up after I've over-indulged on food. I don't let a slip turn into an avalanche.
The support of
100pounds2lose, my friendslist, my friends and lovers and my local Slimming World group.
Eating lots and lots of low calorie foods (very low fat yoghurt, raw fruit, vegetables) and having a generally low-fat, low added sugar diet with sufficient protein.
Having treat foods regularly but in moderation.
Saying 'f*ck it' to the cost of fancy fruit instead of saying 'f*ck it' to the cost of fancy ice cream.
Being on psych meds that work for me.
Keeping up with my routine including exercise and Slimming World meetings even when depressed and/or anxious.
Not drinking alcohol; as well as avoiding having the alcoholic version of the munchies, I also avoid hangovers. Hangovers are very de-motivating when it comes to working out!
Having fitness and weightloss as my number one priority. I call it 'body sculpting', for that is what I have done.
I'm not quite at goal yet, but when I am, I will not consider that I am now 'off' my diet. I have a maintenance plan which I intend to stick to in the tight yet loose way I have stuck to my weightloss plan. I'm very pleased with my progress.
