Just a quick post here. My grandfather is doing well. He woke up from the stroke in fine form, apparently fully as sharp as ever. He was to be released to a rehab facility today or tomorrow at the latest. My mom and everyone in Virginia all sound much more relaxed. So am I. I hope we all get a big break before any other emergencies pop up.
There does look to be an interesting time ahead regarding my mother's husband's will. His nephew is executor and they tried to tell my mother she didn't need to be there for the reading. Bullshit. We just don't trust the other nephew who thinks he's all that and then some. He already showed his colors when he tried to take over making the funeral arrangements (but didn't offer to pay for any of it or even pick up a single tab at the 3 group dinners we had). We also don't have faith in the first one to stand up to his brother and do what's right. As it is, my mother left instructions with the doorman of her building not to let anyone into her apartment but who knows if that was followed. She rigged one of the doors so she'd know if anyone came in tho. We'll just have to see if it's been tripped and if so, what's missing.
(I refer to Speros as my mother's husband because I did not have a stepfather kind of relationship with him. He was more of an aged uncle to me, being considrably older than my mother. Also, I was 30 when they married. I lost my father at 17 and there just was no desire to try to fill that space in my life. Sounds horrible putting it like that, doesn't it?)
