Monday, April 24, Early morning, Cafeteria jack_martin May 7 2007, 01:35:11 UTC
Jack rubbed his eyes a bit blearily as a creamer pot hovered over his mug creaming his strong coffee. Much to his father's teasing, he wasn't 'man enough' to drunk his coffee black. Yet. He was still young. Give him a few more years in this dead end job and he'd rot his teeth out on the stuff.

He leaned against the wall sipping his coffee, eying the tables and not seeing anyone to sit with. He was tired, possibly a little hungover, and his chest hurt. He'd already had a bad morning, having to get here early to turn in the results of the apparition testing at Hogwarts and narrowly missed being chewed out over the turnout of students, which was in no way shape or form his fault anyway. It was going to be a long day.

Tuesday, May 2 - Late morning in the Lift lenore_grey May 18 2007, 01:30:28 UTC
Merlin.

Lenore closed her eyes and tried to pretend she'd gotten more sleep last night. This morning. Whatever it was. She was personally convinced that there was very little that caffeine wouldn't cure, but on occasion her body chose to argue with the theory. Annoying that.

Sighing, she leaned against the back of the lift and took long drink of her coffee. The bright side to coming in late was that things weren't quite so crowded in here. Lenore wasn't sure she was up for listening to several conversations at once in such a confined space. Her head was not happy with her as it was.

Jack was too tired to even bother calling out "hold the lift" as the doors began to clatter shut. Instead he just sort of slid across the marble floor, turning at the last moment and sidestepping through the gap in the doors just in time.

He offered a polite nod to the lift's other occupant as he leaned against another of the walls. He hadn't the vaguest idea who she was, but her coffee smelled amazing. He was heading to the cafeteria to get himself a nice mug of that himself, orelse there was no way he'd make it through a daytime full of stamping seals onto papers and playing carrier pigeon between offices.

Lenore gave the young man a tired, reflexive smile as he slid in. He stayed quiet, which was nice. All too soon she'd be down in the office and walking through that damned room full of ticking clocks. She was pretty well used to the noise by now and most days she rather liked it. Being tired, however, didn't do much for her willingness to tolerate methodical background noise of the sort that either woke you up or put you back to sleep.

After a few moments silence as the lift started to descend she spoke up, nodding as though it needed to be indicated who she was talking to, "Late start for more than just me then?"

The question surprised him, because usually people at work (other than Ed Agate... odd man) didn't really, you know, talk to him, unless they were giving him orders. Still, it would be rude not to answer.

Thinking about it made Jack grin a bit sheepishly. He absently rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. "Yeah well, you know what they say, early to bed, early to rise... makes sense that the opposite's true as well." I had been a late night, which perhaps it shouldn't have been, being a monday, and all... but he'd had someonething to keep him occupied.

Tuesday, May 9th - Afternoon in the Cafeteria lenore_grey May 31 2007, 00:46:54 UTC
Lenore was taking a much needed break from the ninth level and was currently kicked back in a corner of the cafeteria, reclining in her chair with her legs propped up and crossed on the seat of another as she read the Quibbler. She was running into walls again on her project in Mysteries and she needed to clear her head, find inspiration in an unexpected place, something. More often than not, Lenore thought better when she allowed herself to roam the building. Social calls though they were, her random visits to Ed and Mac during the week served a purpose. Tricking her brain into relaxing and coming up with the solution on it's own was a well practiced strategy.

Or then again, maybe it was just that when a person practically lived at work for all self imposed late nights and crazy hours, they were allowed to be eccentric and decide to socialize during normal business hours. She'd needed more coffee too.

Geoffrey was more than ready for a break, having spent his morning running all over the Ministry, desperately trying to get the idiot bureaucrats to give him back his passport. The entire thing was absolutely crazy, considering that for once he'd done absolutely nothing wrong. Well. Certainly he'd not had anything to do with the stuff they were trying to pin on him. He was much better than that.

Clinging to his coffee cup like the lifeline that it was, Geoffrey headed for a corner, hoping to escape the hustle and bustle. Drawing near, he was more than a little please to spot a familiar face.

"H'lo, lovely," he greeted Lenore. "What're you doing way back here?"

Lenore looked up and her expression brightened when she saw Geoffrey walking up. Move from her comfortable spot she didn't, however. There were other chairs for him to sit in if he was really going to join her and Geoffrey was about the last person she expected to take offense at her remaining relaxed. "I," she said matter of factly, "am reading my daily dose of fabricated truth. You know the other week they informed me I know how to raise the dead? I'm curious as to what else I'm doing with my days that I can't tell people about," she said, looking back to the page as though it were really that interesting.

"Really I should be the one asking you why you're here," Lenore added distractedly. It was a valid point and another moment's thought she lowered the Quibbler and gave young Chandler a scrutinizing look. "You haven't been arrested finally, have you?"

Snagging a chair, Geoffrey drew it closer and sat down beside the Unspeakable. "Reading the Quibbler for fabricated truth? You should try the Prophet, it's just as good - last week they ran some absolute shite about how my cousin offed Raleigh's sister and her family," he grumbled. "If you're able to raise the dead, you might try it on them. It'd clear up the rumours that seem to be running rampant at the moment and maybe help clear up the headache I've had since last Wednesday."

Geoffrey had the decency to look offended at her suggestion that he'd been arrested. "Moi? Arrested? If I'd been arrested, d'you think our lovely lads up in Law Enforcement would let me wander around free?" He snorted and took a sip of his coffee. "Naw, they're giving me troubles with my passport. Seem to be under the impression that I've some sort of record of criminal activity, which is preposterous - catch me letting anyone record what I'm up too! Insanity."
