SO...
It's wonderfully strange how everyone else is just going about their normal lives. Perhaps maybe even thinking about watching the debate on tv tomorrow. And yet to everyone here at Hofstra, it's totally fucking insane.
I feel like I'm sleeping over at a carnival.
There's a band playing in a tent on one side of my building right now for seemingly no reason. On the other side, and almost blockading the entranceway, MSNBC is setting up a gigantic stage and lights and little interview spots.
I got up today when it was still dark out to pin curl my hair, trudge to dunkin donuts, go to the costume shop, and dress up like Bella Abzug. I then proceeded to sit in that costume from 7:30am until 2:20, when my speech actually took place, and then immediately got out of that costume. But nonetheless, I had to pretend to be her, give a speech, answer questions as her. Overall a very different experience. News crews, reporters and photographers from papers, student journalists and film majors...interviews and interviews and interviews
I made it into an article in Newsday, the L.I. paper. As well as a photo. Because the Newsday photographer had actually once photographed Bella in her home. So he loved me.
It was easier to play someone more recent, because I could act more modern. It was harder to play someone more recent, because many, many people came up to me saying they'd seen her speak in person before...or worse, they'd met her. No pressure. But they liked me. So I guess I did ok.
I'm getting up at like 4am so I can see them tape The Early Show outside of my building.
Then I'm taking a nap.
Next, I must play Bella Abzug one more time for some sort of press conference in the morning. I don't know exactly what that entails...but I suppose all the press will be on campus with not much to do, so I guess they're interviewing fake real political figures.
Then....FREE STUFF! So many neat things! I've never liked Hofstra so much, this is awesome. Way to make my senior year nifty as hell.
Then...FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE! Of course nobody can watch it in person, so even though it will be taking place within 5 minutes walking distance, I'll be checking it out on a tv screen. :)
I'm gonna keep my eye out for secret service. I really want to see someone like camoflouaged as a bush.
