A Day in My Life: Sunday January 10, 2010.
My alarm went off at 6:15am, but I hit 'snooze' and went back to sleep, so there's no photo of that. When my alarm went off again at 6:30 I dragged myself out of bed.
Everyone else was asleep and the kitchen table was a complete mess...
So I set about tidying up very, very quietly until it looked like this:
Then I got everything ready for making breakfast. Today I decided on omelets. Because omelets are awesome. Also because I bought way too many shallots and needed to use some of them up. For this delicious omelet I would require:
Three eggs
One tomato
Shallots
Garlic granules
I cracked two of the eggs into a bowl and added the white of the third egg and then I whisked the heck out of them until I decided they were whisked enough and chopped me up some shallots and added it to the bowl of egg.
I took the tomato, cut of two slices and diced them.
Then I added the tomato and a sprinkling of garlic to the mixture.
I greased a pan with some good ol' fashioned spray cook and poured the soon-to-be-omelet in. This is my favourite pan for omelets because it is just the right size so the omelet is perfectly round.
Setting the temperature to Low, I dashed off to get dressed.
When the omelet was firm enough to flip, I did so (using some mad spatula skillz) and let it cook lightly on the other side. Then I shoved that fine omelet onto a plate and went off to make some toast.
I buttered the toast and set about making the plate look pretty. (Because presentation is key.)
I cut the two slices of toast into triangles, and I cut the omelet into four equal slices. (Half the omelet for nana and the other half for myself!)
I was just placing the cutlery out on the table when nana woke up. (I have mad timing skills, too.) Breakfast was super delicious.
I then went to brush my teeth, but didn't think to take a photo.
Unfortunately there were still dishes on the sink from the night before.
I had to wash all of them as well as the breakfast dishes. Then I watched a bit of TV until mum woke up.
TIME CHECK!
I made her some coffee since she had decided to forgo breakfast, then I headed off to my room to go on the computer. I checked my emails and facebook and looked around for new job listings.
Then I went out to the loungeroom and did the ironing. I particularly dislike ironing my brother's clothes because they are ginormous and thusly take longer.
Then I had another obligatory time check. It was 10:26 and the day seemed to be dragging on.
I put the ironing away and went back to my job hunting for a while. Then mum, Jacob and I went to the local shopping centre to buy things. I think Jacob got paint for his room. I got the TV Hits magazine due to the surplus of bandom-related content within, as well as some more printer paper.
Not long after we got back home I had to start getting lunch ready. Since this was my 'Cooking for Mostly Lazy People' Day I decided on chicken burgers. So I spread the ingredients across the table and got to work. (Because it was already 12:20 by this time.)
I had bought these chicken burger patties from Woolworths and hadn't tried them before, but they looked pretty good. I decided to cook two at a time in the frying pan. They only needed a couple of minutes on each side.
I made the burgers with cheese, chicken, tomato, lettuce, grated carrot and mayonnaise on breadrolls
I thought they looked pretty good. (I also thought they tasted delicious. Nana and Jacob agreed, but mum was rather negative about the entire thing. She always is when I am in charge of food, though.)
Jacob and I watched MIB while we ate.
After the movie was over I did the dishes and set about going through some old travel books to cut out important stuff. Mainly because I am planning on making my own little book with my plans and itinerary shortly before I leave. I like to get things started early.
When that was over I headed back to my room to write up some job applications. I lost track of time for a while and next thing I knew it was almost 6:30 so I hurried back out to the kitchen to get tea ready. I decided to make the same pasta I described to ya'll in the last meme I did, just because it is so freaking easy.
I shoved some elbow spaghetti and some angel hair spaghetti into a pot. and let that get to boiling while I grabbed everything else I would need.
I went with the garlic granules again because the lazy people (and the hurried people) have no time for such malarkey as garlic cloves.
TME CHECK!
I used what I would estimate to be about a half a tablespoon of vegetable oil in the bottom of a pan (the same one I used for the omelet that morning!) and emptied two cans of diced tomato into it.
I threw in some garlic, oregano and a pinch of sea salt, too.
Between rushing over to the stove to stir the sauce I set about mixing a salad. It included baby spinach leaves, chard, coral lettuce and carrot. I layered the salad across each plate.
When the spaghetti was all boiled, I strained it in a colander and divided it equally across the plates. Then I added the sauce over the top. You know the sauce is ready when it's hot, it's not terribly complex.
Everything was set out and ready. Nana came upstairs after finishing her gardening and mum was just stepping out of the shower when it was ready to be served. Annoyingly Jacob chose that exact moment to demand he be taken to the video shop to hire out some movies. So mum and Jacob left while nana and I started eating. By the time they got back their food was cold. Mine was good, though.
I did the dishes and hung out in the loungeroom with mum and nana watching some boring show on TV.
By this time it was 8:35.
So I decided to go for my shower.
When I got out the loungeroom was awesomely free so I decided to watch some TV.
Random time check!
Right after my time check I got a call from Will.
But then she had to go, so I went back to watching Friends.
Will called back a little while later, and after we finished talking I went back to watch a little more TV, but I called it quits a little after 11:30
I went back to my room and caught up on the latest articles on Cracked.com.
Then I brushed my teeth again.
And I got my stuff ready for going out on Monday morning.
Then i went to sleep. And that was A Day in My Life.
