I want to keep a log of some of the better places I eat, if only so I can stop pestering my brother with "what was that delicious Ethiopian place we ate that one time?"
My brother and H took me out to a lovely dinner at Marrakesh on Saturday, which would otherwise be known as "that really good Moroccan place with the belly dancing". You sit on low cushions barely up off the floor, and eat with your hands, which is something I actually find not just fun, but surprisingly communal. The hostess comes by and washes your hands in a pretty silver basin, which made me feel pampered, and at the end of the meal she sprinkled orange blossom water on our hands - mine still smelled good the next morning.
There was a belly dancing performance, which was beautiful, though with the music it got a little loud until it was done. The meal is 5 courses, with the table sharing the salad and appetizer, though everyone gets their own soup, entree, and dessert. I need to go again, as it was a late dinner and they were out of the braised hare entree I wanted, but the spicy beef with okra special I had was delicious. Everything we had was good (I come from a family of food-sharing people, so we always try everything everyone else is having), but I thought H's lamb with eggplants was the best.
Dessert included mint tea with honey that was very sweet and lovely, and came at just the right temperature for me - hot, but cool enough for me to drink (probably what other people would call 'warm'). Also worth noting the Moroccan beer was pretty good, too. Definitely one to go back to.
